Yes, it's a chain hotel but this Novotel gives you a nice restaurant with park and river view for breakfast. My standard twin room was 400 square feet with a decent washroom with bathtub only and no separate shower. The room was clean and appears to have been recently re-decorated. The bed was very comfortable.

The spa at the top floor has 2 spa baths for guest use but one of them was out of order during my visit. The view from there was excellent.

I stayed at the Mercure in Perth a few days later and found the standard rooms at Novotel and Mercure to be very much the same but the one at Novotel was slightly better in terms of bathroom amenities. The quality of the breakfast at Novotel was also better.

Check in was fine. Staff were friendly.

Rooms are not 5* rated. Walls scratched and/or dented, soap scum in the shower, rusted shower head, mould growing along the walls. Floor not vacuumed. Rubbish from previous stayer still visible in room.

Second room I was given was not much better. Floor could use with a good vacuum, walls could be repaired. Beds could be replaced with comfortable ones. TV not working or checked. (Cord not plugged in correctly.)

Overall opinion. This hotel should be rated 3***. I have stayed at 3*** hotels and had a great experience.

For a 5***** star rated hotel, you should not have to pay for parking. $25 a day for parking (24 hours). I asked reception for a discount and was told $25 is a discounted rate.

happy to stay there again, i generally have stayed across the road at the "then" sheraton whenever in perth, happy to revisit the Novotel next time. The food was delicious , being attached to a pub was also interesting.
