“Beautiful Home Away From Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

My daughter and I stayed at this delightful property for three nights towards the end of last year. I had contemplated staying at a hotel in the city - I am so glad I didn't! From the welcome we received from our gracious hosts Sandra and Bill, the beautifully restored Edwardian house, the great location, the wonderfully decorated and very comfortable rooms to the delicious breakfasts - I doubt you could find better accommodation. It is a ten minute walk to the main street which boasts many lovely restaurants and some great shops. The railway station is a three minute walk and it is only seven minutes to the city with attractions such as Cottesloe and Fremantle easily accessible. Sandra and Bill have thought of everything to make your stay more enjoyable including a cupboard stocked with a few neccessities, DVD's, a fridge, complimentary tea, coffee or a glass of sherry. The beautiful conservatory opens on to a shady courtyard - a delightful place to sit with a coffee or glass of wine. It was with sadness that we had to leave and would love to avail ourselves of their hospitality at another time. I would highly recommend a stay at Durack House.

My introduction to W.A hospitality was impressive. Bill and Sandra made me feel welcomed in that special way that old families have as customary hospitality to strangers. The attention to detail both inside and outside the house creates a unique combination that bears the imprint of considerable experience of welcoming their guests. If it is your desire to experience what Perth has to offer as a city I cannot think of a better way or better place to stay.

“A great welcome to Perth”

Sandra & Bill know just how to welcome the tired traveler and put them at ease. We loved our double room which had its own little terrace, and an excellent ensuite. Breakfasts were superb, no rigid time, and taken in the lovely conservatory. The house is on a large corner plot in a very quiet and select area. Whilst we were there we used public transport which was excellent, with buses into the city from just up the road, and fast metro trains going straight through to Fremantle. Pay the bus driver per trip, or buy 1/2 zone tickets on train platforms. Sandra helped with everything, even our laundry; and because we were winging it through WA was able to recommend other excellent B&B's for our onward journey. I agree with some other comments tho...Perth Airport should get is passport control sorted out ...and yes, this must be best B&B in Perth

“Very convenient/helpful hints from airport”

I must start by saying that this is the first Australian b and b that we have stayed in so I cannot make any comparison with other properties.
We arrived by taxi from the airport and stayed two nights, the fare was 37 Aus dollars. Sandra and Bill were out however the key was left as arranged and we let ourselves in. There was a note telling us to help ourselves to tea and coffee and cookies! The room was very well appointed and spacious and we were very pleased with our choice. We met Bill and Sandra the next morning for breakfast and they were charming hosts. Breakfast was served in The Conservatory and was very good. There were four other people staying at the same time and we had a chance to compare notes over breakfast. The property is situated in a very upmarket residential area and very close to Beaufort Street which is within easy walking distance as is the train to Perth. Would we stay here again? Yes.
The next time I would do things slightly different, we hired a car from Bayswater car hire just down the road and got a taxi there the next morning about 15 dollars. I would get a taxi from the airport straight to Bayswater car hire, pick the car up and drive to Durack House, five minutes away with the help of Sat Nav! Stay overnight at Durack House before starting off to our ultimate destination. This way you can have a nights sleep after a long flight, obviously it depends on you arrival time at Perth, allow at least an hour to get through passport control!
I hope this helps.
