Please note - this was a group of 9 people, who are not high maintenance. A working birthday lunch with a one hour lunch break at a booked table. The restaurant had 7 staff on and 16 people seated (including us).
1: we were given the trainee waitress on her first day who was being given no supervision.
2: we ordered:
1 x BLT w/ bbq sauce on side
2 x chicken curry
3 x beef burger (1 x no cheese or bacon, 1 x no cheese)
1 x calamari salad
1 x pie
1 x pasta special
3: after 45/50 minutes we received
1 x BLT w/ tomato sauce
1 x BLT with no bacon
1 x BLT
1 x pasta
4: our waitress then said she had keyed the burgers in as BLT's) and would start again.
5: after another 20 minutes we received
2 x chicken curries
3 x burgers - still with none of the ordered changes made (bacon, cheese etc all still present). NOTE: The fries that came with the burger had been refried (can you believe it!).
6: after another ten minutes, our pregnant team member received her pie. It was cold. She sent it back and ended up leaving and getting grilled.
7: The Manager almost refused to enter into any conversation about the food and service, instead sending the poor trainee back to talk to us and deliver each set of bad news. WE finally had to say that we wouldn't subject the staff to it anymore and asked to send the Manager over.
8: She came, and after the second time of leaving, taking off the drinks (which we were happy to pay for as they came on time and in correct order), we asked finally to have the burgers removed (all but inedible) and the pie (which was not eaten). She said she didn't have the authority to do it, when asked to get the person who did, she finally took them off the bill.
Summary - this was not only the worst lunch experience I have had in Melbourne (I could honestly say the worst dining experience), not only from the viewpoint of the food for half of the table (I had the BLT and mine was lovely, the pasta was fine, as were the curries and the pasta), but moreover the worst display of management I have seen in an Australian dining place. The Manageress was rude, unfriendly, negative and unapologetic. As was stated at the table, we all understand muck ups on the first day of the job, however the manager (with 7 staff on and 16 customers at the time) let it play our into the disaster it became.
I would recommend that she be either replaced, or retrained as she is not of the correct temperament or standard to be training new staff, or dealing with repeat clients such as we were.
What. A. Mess.
