We were an all female group of ten that stayed in May. We had booked 2 x 3br aparts, but at check-in were advised that there was a guest staying longer in one of the aparts, so we were given 1 x 1br, 1 x 2br & 1 x 3br. This was at no extra charge, and was a good solution.
Sevice: as mentioned above, the initial check-in service was great (as was the prior booking phone contact). We should mention that the booking and check-in was done by a female staff member, not the male staff member below.
However, on returning to the her apartment at 2am, one of our group (in the 1br apart) noticed all power was off (when she left, she had left a lamp on). She was unwilling to walk into a pitch black apartment on her own, due to once having been in a hotel room and having found someone in her room in the middle of the night.
Thankfully she had the reception contact details in her bag, and used her mobile to call the emergency contact number for the night manager (the phone in the apartment was also not working). He advised her that the power was off in half the complex and may not be restored until "5 or 6am in the morning". She asked if she could come to reception and get a torch so she could check her apartment and was told "there's no way someone could get in (the apartment)". She said she (and he) couldn't be 100% that it was secure and had had security issues before, was on her own, and didn't think it was that unusual of a request. The night manager said there was one torch in the whole place, it was his and he needed it. There was no understanding of the situation, no offer to come and check the apartment and when asked what her options were, was told to "go to sleep".
Thankfully we were part of a group, and 2 friends came (with their mobile phones for light) and checked the apartment.
The whole group found this most unsatisfactory and disturbing. Guests, whether male, female, single or part of a group, should not have to feel unsafe and to take matters into their own hands. It's not too much to ask to have a few spare torches in reception.
If you are paying a night manager to be on the premises, then they should be prepared to sort out guests problems, not to dismiss them.
All in all we were pleased with the location of the apartments, but our stay was really tainted by the complete lack of empathy, understanding and service when it came to the power outage and security. Given there are so many accom. choices, we will not stay again.
Location: very handy for shopping and public transport. 1min walk to Toorak Rd for trams, taxis and shopping, 5 min to sth yarra station for trains, 10 min to chapel St for shops, restaurants etc.
Apartments: very clean, quite spacious, well equipped. Noise from hot water service and toilet flushing was a problem in all 3 apartments. Also no facilities for storing luggage after checkout.
