My son and I recently spent eight days at Parkville Place Apartments whilst he moved house and found it suited us perfectly. We had a studio room with a queen bed and a single bed. The room was fresh and clean, as was the bathroom, which had shower, vanity unit and toilet. We found having cupboards and drawers in the bathroom very handy and there was enough rack space ahooks to to hang our towels to dry in the bathroom.
The double wardrobe provided plenty of space for our clothes and we made good use of the iron and ironing board. The kitchen area had all we required - stove top with 4 elements, microwave, kettle and toaster. The cupboards contained crockery, glassware and cutlery for three people and we made good use of the frying pan and pots provided. Tea, coffee and biscuits were replenished daily, and there was shelf space to put food above the bench/sink area. The fridge and microwave were in a cupboard, which wasn't a big problem, but we did find it best to leave the cupboard door ajar most of the time as there was no ventilation for the fridge and the cupboard became quite warm. Maybe removal of the door would ensure the fridge worked well.
The room had an air conditioner, although it was quite noisey at times so ear plugs helped when it came to sleeping. We later realised this was because the window above it rattled so we opened the window a fraction and it fixed the problem. It was nice to have windows that opened too so we could ventilate the room after cooking. The room was serviced daily but not cleaned daily - this was done every 7 days, however, there was a dustpan and brush and we managed to keep the room clean and tidy.
There were two tram routes into the city, both within about 10 minutes walking distance and Barkly Mall was also about 15 mins walk away. The mall had two supermarkets so it made buying food easy. Sydney Rd with the Brunswick shops, cafes, restaurants etc. was within walking distance.
The accommodation was well-priced, however, there was an extra charge to use the internet (USB) which could be used on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. We didn't use the laundry but no doubt it would be great for longer stays. The after-hours arrangements for entering and exiting the apartments worked very well.
All in all we found it to be perfect for our requirements and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Melbourne who didn't need to be right in the CBD and who planned to stay more than a couple of nights. We didn't have a car but there is parking on-site for vehicles. The staff were very friendly and helpful and if there had been a problem with the room I'm sure they would have sorted it out quickly.
