“Had a good stay here.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Stayed here recently on a 5 day trip to Melbourne. Found this accommodation to be very good value for what you are paying. Not 5 star but clean, well located and definitely worth it if you are looking for budget accommodation. Our room was a studio with cooking facilities, stove microwave, fridge etc and all the usual facilities you would expect of a motel. Reception and housekeeping staff were all friendly and helpful. Felt safe in the building as it has security access to the building before you can get to your room. Have read some of the other reviews which complain about the noise but we found it to be very quite and were certainly not bothered by any street noise.

Overall a pleasant experience and would recommend to others looking for accommodation close to the city centre.

“Great value, clean and fresh”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My son and I recently spent eight days at Parkville Place Apartments whilst he moved house and found it suited us perfectly. We had a studio room with a queen bed and a single bed. The room was fresh and clean, as was the bathroom, which had shower, vanity unit and toilet. We found having cupboards and drawers in the bathroom very handy and there was enough rack space ahooks to to hang our towels to dry in the bathroom.

The double wardrobe provided plenty of space for our clothes and we made good use of the iron and ironing board. The kitchen area had all we required - stove top with 4 elements, microwave, kettle and toaster. The cupboards contained crockery, glassware and cutlery for three people and we made good use of the frying pan and pots provided. Tea, coffee and biscuits were replenished daily, and there was shelf space to put food above the bench/sink area. The fridge and microwave were in a cupboard, which wasn't a big problem, but we did find it best to leave the cupboard door ajar most of the time as there was no ventilation for the fridge and the cupboard became quite warm. Maybe removal of the door would ensure the fridge worked well.

The room had an air conditioner, although it was quite noisey at times so ear plugs helped when it came to sleeping. We later realised this was because the window above it rattled so we opened the window a fraction and it fixed the problem. It was nice to have windows that opened too so we could ventilate the room after cooking. The room was serviced daily but not cleaned daily - this was done every 7 days, however, there was a dustpan and brush and we managed to keep the room clean and tidy.

There were two tram routes into the city, both within about 10 minutes walking distance and Barkly Mall was also about 15 mins walk away. The mall had two supermarkets so it made buying food easy. Sydney Rd with the Brunswick shops, cafes, restaurants etc. was within walking distance.

The accommodation was well-priced, however, there was an extra charge to use the internet (USB) which could be used on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. We didn't use the laundry but no doubt it would be great for longer stays. The after-hours arrangements for entering and exiting the apartments worked very well.

All in all we found it to be perfect for our requirements and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Melbourne who didn't need to be right in the CBD and who planned to stay more than a couple of nights. We didn't have a car but there is parking on-site for vehicles. The staff were very friendly and helpful and if there had been a problem with the room I'm sure they would have sorted it out quickly.

Room Tip: Some rooms on the east side of the building have balconies and would get early morning sun, which wo...

The windows dont close, therefor you cant keep out the noise from the main road. For an extra $10/15 I will be staying elsewhere when in Melbourne. The shower has mould growing in it, finger prints all over the table, didnt look like it had been cleaned.Yuk yuk yuk. Go somewhere else

“Budget accomodation close to two different tram routes to the Melbourne CBD”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Our family room was a double room with an adjacent small bedroom equipped with 2 sets of bunks. It was fine for 2 adults and 1 child, but any more than 4 people would be a bit of a squeeze. The kitchenette had a 4 ring electric hob, microwave, toaster & a kettle. There was crockery and cutlery for 6 people.

Thanks to the manager, Warren, our teenage son was given another room for a few nights at no extra cost. So we had some extra space for a few days.

Our stay covered the Christmas & New Year period, and the housekeeping service seemed to go a bit awry. Our room was checked every day, but they never changed the bedding or vacuumed the room in 2 weeks, but towels were replaced when required.

Room Tip: Get a room on the back of the building - there is no double glazing, but the traffic noise is not no...

“A good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

I stayed at Parkville Apartments for 2 weeks while looking for permanent accomodation in Melbourne. I found the hotel suited my basic needs for the time and was comfortable, neat and affordable. I actually thought the photos on the website didn't do the hotel sufficient justice. It's not quite 4 star, but it is a very solid 3 star option and the furniture and fittings are modern and in good order. I particularly liked my room as there was a small balcony and it was at the back of the complex. The location of the hotel was perfect for my needs, close to the city and tram access, close to supermarkets and restaurants and in a pleasant suburban area. The staff were very kind and helpful, particularly to someone in my circumstances, as I had no knowledge of the immediate area and had parcels being delivered etc..as is typical when relocating from interstate. The in-house laundry was most useful and the cooking facilities were adequate for my needs. One evening I even cooked a Coq Au Vin in the little kitchenette, so you have what you need, just get creative. Most of all the hotel were very flexible with me, which I appreciated. I was unsure the exact length of my stay and they were understanding of my circumstance and accomodating to it. I'd like to thank the staff for making my welcome to Melbourne as smooth as friendly as possible.
