“Good location but an unpleasant place to stay . .”

We stayed at the Travelodge on Southbank for 3 nights - we had intended to stay with friends but due to unforeseen circumstances, needed to find somewhere for this part of our holiday. Given it was Australian Tennis Open time, we had some challenges in finding somewhere reasonable - the Travelodge offered a 10% discount for 3 nights accommodation so we took our chances. We won't, however, be staying here again unless we absolutely have to. Access to the hotel was reasonably easy (there's a stopping bay out front) and while there is no parking at the hotel, they've struck a deal with the car park behind the nearby Langham Hotel and car parking costs were very reasonable ($12 a day if you did not move your car and $24 a day if you did). Check-in was easy (and we had a room on level 6 or 7) and it was clear when we got to our floor that the hotel had been renovated in the last year or two. But our room was smelly, the bedspread was stained, and the air-conditioning made such a racket. Bed was not particularly comfortable and the pillows were pretty awful. And the towels/linen? Not sure where they get them laundered but they smelt and felt horrible. Good thing Melbourne is such a great town for we spent most of our time out and about but the hotel was definitely not somewhere we looked forward to coming back to in order to rest up for the next day's adventures. And the service? Both phone and face to face, was not very helpful/friendly.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Travelodge Southbank.

We appreciate the time you have taken to provide us with your feedback. In relation to the points you have raised I have addressed your concerns with the relevant departments to improve our overall guest experience. I have spoken with our housekeeping team to make sure they are following the proper procedures when they clean a room not only make sure the room is clean but it also smells and looks fresh. I will speak with our supplier in relation to the comfort and feel of the towelling. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Every two months we replace 100 pillows in the hotel to keep them feeling nice and comfortable to sleep on. The last new lot of pillows went into rooms in late December.

I would like to thank you providing this feedback and if you would like to discuss this in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at the hotel.

Kind regards,
Doug Smith

“Nice hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel which we stayed in at the beginning of January for 4 nights. The room was quite spacious, well equipped with a nice sized bed. The hotel itself felt clean and spacious. The best part was the location of the property on the riverbank across a bridge from the main hub with plenty of restaurants located nearby. Given all of this I would very happily stay here again and certainly recommend it.

“Travelodge right on Southbank, Melbourne, Australia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Due to several Christmas celebrations, we had reason to stay in the City for two nights during December. Our friends, travellers from Lyon in France, had stayed here for 4 nights in 2010 and said what excellent accommodation and ideal location they had staying at The Travelodge in Southbank. So with this advice, we reserved two nights at this hotel, mainly due to the central location. To our surprise the cost of the two nights, purchased on-line and very reasonable for that time of the year, came with a delicious buffet breakfast. Although there is no gymnasium or pool at this hotel, I was informed by reception that guests can use these facilities at The Madina Hotel, located about 10 minutes away. I didn't take them up on this offer but felt this was a reasonable offer for those guests wanting these facilities. The reception staff were efficient and polite and the young lady taking care of the breakfast area kept everything clean and topped-up. Definitely recommend this hotel for the location and the breakfast.

“Ok stay, nice location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Stayed here as it was reasonably close to the Tennis arenas for the Australian Open. Good location, approx 15 min walk to Tennis Arenas.
Close to Southbank where there are lovely restaurants, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Relaxed atmosphere along the Yarra River.
Hotel was adequate. Beds were comfortable. Added bonus having a microwave in room. Only basic toiletries provided. No body lotion or showercap. Other room doors slammed and shook the walls in our room....that was annoying.
Overall, hotel was ok.

“Bargain Hotel in City Centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I stay here frequently for business and this is an ideal base for visitors.
The hotel is a very short walk from the main attractions and ideally located for the Southbank restaurants and attractions.
Whilst basic in its main facilities ( no bar or restaurant ) the rooms are always clean and comfortable with cable tv,fridge, tea and coffee and the usual extras you need now days-iron and ironing board. A decent buffet breakfast can be bought for extra but this is the only in-house food. However there are lots of restaurants locally that will deliver and if you are on holiday this is more fun.
Flinder's station and the shopping area is a two minute stroll across the river.
If you are looking for a reasonable priced hotel in the city centre i would highly recommend this one

Room Tip: The rooms do not have good views - the lower level rooms are better as the lifts can get very busy a...
