We stayed at the Travelodge on Southbank for 3 nights - we had intended to stay with friends but due to unforeseen circumstances, needed to find somewhere for this part of our holiday. Given it was Australian Tennis Open time, we had some challenges in finding somewhere reasonable - the Travelodge offered a 10% discount for 3 nights accommodation so we took our chances. We won't, however, be staying here again unless we absolutely have to. Access to the hotel was reasonably easy (there's a stopping bay out front) and while there is no parking at the hotel, they've struck a deal with the car park behind the nearby Langham Hotel and car parking costs were very reasonable ($12 a day if you did not move your car and $24 a day if you did). Check-in was easy (and we had a room on level 6 or 7) and it was clear when we got to our floor that the hotel had been renovated in the last year or two. But our room was smelly, the bedspread was stained, and the air-conditioning made such a racket. Bed was not particularly comfortable and the pillows were pretty awful. And the towels/linen? Not sure where they get them laundered but they smelt and felt horrible. Good thing Melbourne is such a great town for we spent most of our time out and about but the hotel was definitely not somewhere we looked forward to coming back to in order to rest up for the next day's adventures. And the service? Both phone and face to face, was not very helpful/friendly.
