We got deal from wotif for $179, paid too much for such little, checked in late sorry no room changes all rooms full, our room was large with very creaky floors, shower was over the bath, which was deep and narrow very awkward to get into, so i pity anyone who can't jump over the bath to have a shower too higher sides, I don't think it was safe, mould in bathroom glass door as well, during the night you could here anyone walking past the room as the door shook, morning paper sir yes i asked for herald sun, at my door in morning was the age, now for breakfast, we had 2 full buffet breakfast's included, we came into the dinning area expecting a nice full on breakfast only to be told you have to pick only 3 items of the selection menu , which will be cooked for you, no self serve, continental was available but poor selection, we waited over 25mins for our food and when it came out there was hardly any food on the large plate, I was so disappointed, we have stayed at many hotels in Melbourne and around the globe which far exceed this quality of service, my personal opinion would I stay here again NEVER, would I recommend it NO.

We stayed here for 2 nights - got an incredible deal on Wotif of A $149 per night for a superior room with breakfast.

We purchased a secret deal on Last minute.com and it turned out to be the Windsor? "Excellent purchase, your going to love it" said all of our Melbourne friends and family! So off we go full of hope and expectation!
The first thing you notice on arrival is how majestic the facade is, its old world beauty at its best. The location also is fabulous,across the road from Parliament with its equally beautiful facade and walking distance to all the main streets of the Melbourne CBD, China town and with the free tram stop right outside the building.
As soon as we arrived the very friendly doorman took our bags and had them escorted up to our room. The foyer is magnificent, enormous in size and full of old antiques and Chesterfield lounges. "Great start" we thought and proceeded to the check in desk. The check in staff were efficient but friendly may be a stretch too far? We were given our room number and took the elevator to the forth floor to find our room.....and thats when the dissapointment started! As soon as we entered we were greeted with a damp musty smell, the room was small and tired with shabby carpet and i would rate it at 3.5 stars at best? (Comparing the rating to 5 star hotels we have stayed in throughout Europe and Asia)
It had a well stocked mini bar in the wardrobe and the bathroom had everything you needed for a short stay but was certainly not luxurious?
We strayed down to "The cricketers Bar" in the evening and had a bite to eat and a drink before our concert. We ordered the special off the menu, which was a steak sandwich, that was ok but nothing really more than glorified steak,egg and chips? We returned very late in the evening and consequently slept in in the morning. We woke well after ten and dialled down to reception to tell them we had breakfast included in the stay and had missed it. The extremely helpful girl on the desk immediatley arranged a voucher to eat in their cafe around the corner and extended our check out time to 1pm. This gesture alone and fabulous service from the girl on the desk helped us to overlook the fact that the room was ordinary.
All in all i think that you would get much better value at other establishments around Melbourne and if nothing else it has taught us to be suspicious of the secret hotel deals being advertised on booking web sites? If you want grand old world charm though, then the windsor is probably for you?

We were originally given a superior room near the staircase, but there was an awful smell coming from the toilet. Matter requesting someone to look at it, they simply changed us to a nicer room overlooking the street. This was right next to the Melba suite and we were allowed to have a peek inside at one stage. Excellent service, nothing was too much bother. The second room was much nicer, although still classed as a superior room. Highly recommended, especially if you can get a good room rate off an online booking provider.
