“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

In Melbourne for a concert at Rod Laver Arena, we needed somewhere close for an overnight stay. Having stayed at this hotel some 13 years ago (not sure if it was a Mantra then), I had no hesitation to do so again. We wre pleasently surprised at the size of the room, although as some others have stated, the age is showing, particularly in some of the furniture and fixtures. Our room had a large kitchenette, including a full-size oven/cooktop, which would have been handy if we were staying longer. We were on the eastern (MCG) side of the hotel, in a 2nd floor room, and I don't recall the noise from the trains being an issue. Within walking distance of the city and all major sporting venues, this hotel is in a great spot, and was not too badly priced.

Room Tip: Eastern (MCG) side, lower floors.

“Great location for access to Rod Laver Arena”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I stayed at the Mantra for one night to see The Wall concert at Rod Laver Arena. I couldn't have asked for a better located hotel for this purpose. It is also a very nice 5 minute walk to the National Gallery of Victoria Ian Potter Centre and a 10-15 minute walk to the CBD (Bourke Street Mall) so very well located. I stayed in room 818 which overlooked the Rod Laver Arena and faced out to the rail tracks. Other reviewers have mentioned the noise of the trains at night but I must admit that I found it rather relaxing background noise. The staff were very helpful with maps and how to get around. The room service meal was good (fish and chips, vegetarian pizza) and the room light and spacious enough for 2 king singles, a 2 seater dining table and TV. I agree with other reviewers that the place is a 3 to 3.5 star but not a 4. The room, whilst comfortable, was average and needed updating. The bathroom was also showing its age and at some stage, a tile had been fixed onto other tiles around the shower with plaster and paint all down the shower screen frame - it looked like whoever did it just didn't care what it looked like. Other than this, the place is quite comfortable to stay in and I would definitely stay there again for the proximity to Rod Laver Arena and the other tennis courts etc.

Thank you for your recent review of our property.
I was pleased to read that overall the property suited your needs and have also taken on your comments relating to the standard of product.
As noted in rooms, we are currently undergoing soft refurbishments to areas identified like bathrooms, although concede this is a lenghly process.
Relating to the comments on the bathroom, I have forwarded your comments onto our Maintenance Team to address and respond as a matter of priority as this is certainly not the level of work accepted here.
Many thanks again for your feedback.

“Not bad for a one night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We had 3 adults stay in a two room suite during our trip for the Roger Waters show in February 2012. The place was reasonably clean and well maintained. The rooms are not the most modern but still comfortable. I got a good night's sleep as the bed was quite comfy.

As others have commented, the trains can be a bit noisy, however the trains don't really start up till 6.30am so if you're not planning a sleep in then it's not a huge problem.

The shower could do with a soap holder but otherwise the bathrooms were clean and had everything we needed.

We had dinner and a couple of drinks at the hotel restaurant which was reasonably priced and the food was good.

If you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay when going to the MCG or Rod Laver it's conveniently located and I would stay there again for a one-nighter.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't overlook the train tracks if you think that noise will bother you.

“they keep doing it !!!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Our stay at the Mantra on Jolimont was ok to good. We booked an apartment with laundry as per web site close by for the Tennis Open 15th to 31st Jan 2012 and here is what we got...
Booked about August 2011. (through travel agent)
Allocated unit 208 over looking the railway tracks, very noisy, complained and given unit 316 at the front much brighter and less noise.
Laundry sheared not in unit as per website.
Apartment In bad repair (yes they are being upgraded) but the following should not happen,
items we found requiring urgent attention. Kitchen cardboard door hanging loose.
Bathroom light switch not sitting correctly.
Range top, ring surrounds, oven, cutlery, crockery ,bedroom cardboard mirror and lamp shades all dirty or dusty.
we had to ask to have the carpet vacuumed on the 8th day.
who is checking the units..and why are longer stays put in rubbish units ????
Staff.. always very helpful with a smile.
it is in a great location but a bit over priced, should be 3 Star Rated not 4 star.
Azure WIFI internet was rubbish (required for business) got 2 bar signal max..
yes we have stayed in Mantras all over Aust and yes we would stay again.

Room Tip: Right hand street corner looking from street a brighter with less noise

“Great. Would stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Our stay at the Mantra on Jolimont was great. The room was spacious, clean, quiet and had a nice outlook, even though we were on the first floor. The bed was comfy and the service was very good. Bathroom a little dated, but still fine! The hotel is in a great location and it's a very short walk into the city. When we asked for a late checkout, they gave us a complimentary 12pm checkout which was very handy. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: When standing out the front facing the building, we were on the right hand side which seemed to be n...
