“Very average apartments”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Our family of 5 stayed at fairfax house recently for 5 nights in the 3 bedroom penthouse in the 2nd building. Location is great, very central and as we were going to the tennis it was convenient and easy to all attractions. We had contacted the hotel before with our concerns about noise and cleanliness, the past reviews of the apartments were not great! We were promptly reassured so made a booking. The hotel was not dirty but badly maintained. Paint work is peeling off near windows, the carpets are stained and thread bare in parts and the place needs a general overhaul. The apartment is noisy but we were prepared for this, maybe if you were at the back of the hotel it may not be as bad.
The weather was very hot during our stay and the only air-conditioning was a split system in lounge/dining. If it was on high it was so noisy and it only cooled the living areas, the bedrooms were unbelievably hot. We contacted reception to ask about evaporative cooling and were told that it wasn't working and to use the split. We asked for fans and were given 3 uprights but at $460 a night (more expensive due to the Australian open), there should be adequate cooling. When it did cool down we could only open 2 of the 4 windows, the others were broken and kept slamming shut.
Kitchen is well equipped, apartment is spacious but of a very average standard. Be mindful that the car parking spaces are sooo small and I am not exaggerating, it took a good 5 minutes to go in and out of the tiny, tiny car park.

Room Tip: Ask maybe for a room at back of hotel

Thank you for your recent review of our Service Apartments. Please accept our sincerely apology for not meeting your standard. I do understand that the noise factor is one of the major issues that we have and we are under the process of double glazing our apartments. We certainly take a note of our maintenance issues and pass in to the maintenance department to fix it. We are currently working on installing new A/C units in apartments. With the car park issue I definitely agreed that our car parking spaces are fairly small and we do asked the guests to provide the type of vehicle so that we can allocate the parking spot which is near to the entrance. Hopefully we can welcome you back soon.

“Nice, Clean and very friendly staff”

I stayed at Quest Fairfax House very recently and i honestly could not have ask for better. Some friends and i stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment and it was very, very large. It is very hard to find large apartments in the city but Fairfax was perfect. The room was clean and the staff were very helpful with directions around Melbourne and more than happy to help with everything we needed.
I was worried about the noise however we had no issues, i did expect noise because we were staying in the middle of the city. Fairfax has a great location and we really could not have asked for a better place to stay!

We stayed here four nights, since this was the first time we were in Melbourne it was great to be in the center of the city, with all attractions handy to reach by taking the free tram or free bus both stopping walking distance from the Quest.
The Apartment was clean and quiet during the night.
The Receptionist was very helpful and informative.
Thank you for a great stay and we will be back!

Room Tip: We had an Apartment on the same building as the Reception, very quiet.

“A good location but with good location comes with problems...”

Stayed in a one room apartment last week. The location is great as you are actually near everything and anything... However, being in the heart of everything means that I have had to bear with the noise that occurs nightly and worse on fri & sat nights. There's an entertainment venue nearby on Queens Street and people start to queue to enter at about 8pm and trouble will come about 1am. If you are a lady and have intention to stay at Fairfax House, I would recommend not.
One thing to note is that the housekeeping comes very very early; as early as probably 9am? Cos I stayed for a week and that the housekeeping only managed to clean up twice out of 6 times.

Room Tip: All the One Bed Room Apartments are not at 392 Little Collins Street but the next door building.

Thank you for your feedback.
About the Noise, We are on the process of installing double glazed windows and hopefully this will reduce the problem. With the security purpose we do have an onsite management staff to look after any security issues and i can assure that the apartments are safe at any given time.
I will Definitely look in to the House Keeping matter since they supposed to start services after 10AM and they are required to do the services everyday except Sundays and public holidays unless specified with special deals.

“Well positioned for a business trip to Melbourne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

I stayed in a studio apartment (Apartment #3) for three nights last week while on a business trip to Melbourne.

The Quest is close to a range of good restaurants and bars as well as in easy walking distance to a number of convenience stores. When I travel for business I prefer to stay in services apartments so I have that little bit of extra space and the ability to cook some of my own meals if I choose. The kitchen was well appointed with a good range of cutlery, crockery, pots, pans and cooking utensils

The bathroom was large, plenty of hot water and nice toiletries. In the bathroom there was a front loading washing machine and a tumble dryer.

Only downsides was the noise which other reviewers have mentioned. Pack your ear plugs!
