Our family of 5 stayed at fairfax house recently for 5 nights in the 3 bedroom penthouse in the 2nd building. Location is great, very central and as we were going to the tennis it was convenient and easy to all attractions. We had contacted the hotel before with our concerns about noise and cleanliness, the past reviews of the apartments were not great! We were promptly reassured so made a booking. The hotel was not dirty but badly maintained. Paint work is peeling off near windows, the carpets are stained and thread bare in parts and the place needs a general overhaul. The apartment is noisy but we were prepared for this, maybe if you were at the back of the hotel it may not be as bad.
The weather was very hot during our stay and the only air-conditioning was a split system in lounge/dining. If it was on high it was so noisy and it only cooled the living areas, the bedrooms were unbelievably hot. We contacted reception to ask about evaporative cooling and were told that it wasn't working and to use the split. We asked for fans and were given 3 uprights but at $460 a night (more expensive due to the Australian open), there should be adequate cooling. When it did cool down we could only open 2 of the 4 windows, the others were broken and kept slamming shut.
Kitchen is well equipped, apartment is spacious but of a very average standard. Be mindful that the car parking spaces are sooo small and I am not exaggerating, it took a good 5 minutes to go in and out of the tiny, tiny car park.
