Have now stayed several times at this hotel and very consistent. Each time the rooms have been modern, clean, quite large and comfortable. The central city location gives good access to transport, restaurants, theatres etc.
Noise has never been a issue with the rooms very quiet on each occassion.
It is potentially not a hotel I would use for a romantic weekend away or a luxury break but certainly a great business hotel or for a visit planned around activities rather than luxuriating.

I stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment for 1 night and couldn't be happier with the experience. The lobby was beautiful, the staff very helpful and the room was extremely clean. There was a kitchen area with microwave and tea/coffee facilities, plenty of storage space and a generous flat screen TV in the living area. I was also lucky enough to have a balcony which ran across the length of the living and bedroom area.

The bed was so comfortable and the linen looked and felt fresh & clean. There was also a flat screen tv which had a decent amount of channels including some Foxtel. The bathroom was a generous size and stocked lovely soaps and toiletries.

The staff were happy to store our luggage when we arrived early and also when we checked out but weren't ready to go to the airport yet. My friend's room was ready when we arrived at 10 and she was allowed to check in.

I'd definitely choose this hotel on my next visit to Melbourne as it was clean, modern and very central to everything you'd want to see. Right by Chinatown, Bourke St Mall and the local Woolworths.

I organised a night in Melbourne after picking my boyfriend up from the airport as a surprise. I booked the room from last minute as a secret booking, once finding out the hotel i read all these reviews and couldn't wait to surprise my boyfriend.

Arrived at Mantra just after 1.30pm and checked in straight away which was great and very happy all we wanted to do is just be in an air con room. When we get into the room (15 floor) it was hot so we turned the air con on and then went out for lunch.

We returned about 5pm and couldn’t wait to get into a cool room well that wasn’t the case our room was hot!! So we called reception and advised them they were very friendly resetting the air con and would call us in 15 mins, well no phone call so we called reception back and got advise they will follow up, about 5 mins later and knock on the door. Staff member came and checked our air con still not working and very hot in the room. He said that is it blowing out some air but not cold air so it wasn't working, he said he will got speak to supervisor, next minute our phone rang and said sorry your air con is working, we can give you a fan and a bucket of ice but that’s the only thing they can offer which I do not think this is good enough. It was 30 degree out side and a lot hotter in our room.

Then to make things worst the room had a bad curry smell in our room and it was worst out in the floor. As I do not have a strong stomach the smell got to me and made me feel sick.

I would not complain about the staff they were friendly and the room and location is great, very close to the main shopping area of the city and close to public transport.

As we were going to stay another night in Melb we didn’t want to stay at the Mantra again as we wanted a good night sleep. So we used the computer there to book a night at another hotel then the printer doesn't work and we had to email the confirmation to reception and get a funny look when the staff member noticed what was printer.

Overall we will not be staying again as we pay good money to have a nice air con room and we did not get this.

We stayed at the Mantra on Russell whilst visiting Melbourne for a weekend. We had a one bedroom apartment which was very well appointed. The staff where friendly, the room was clean and we had a most enjoyable stay. The location is great, very close to the main shopping area of the city and close to public transport. Our room had a balcony which was a pleasant touch in a city hotel.
