“A Bit Tatty but Good Value if you negotiate a discount”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We picked this hotel because it was close to where we needed to be and it offered an exceptional discount, particularly unusual given that it was Australian Open Tennis week. I had driven past the property numerous times, was familiar with the prime location and was curioous as to what drove the nearly 50% discount. We found out on check-in. Thye hotel is badly in need of a makeover/renovation. It was clean, parking was convenient and the staff pleasant. But stay here only if can can negotiate a good rate

“Great, low rise hotel.”

I'm not a fan of high rise buildings, so Bayview on the Park was a great pick for us. It's only about 5/6 levels.

We have stayed there several times, in a twin room. I do believe that all twin rooms have a view over the park (not the parking lot out the back), so be sure to check this when you book.

We are always well looked after here. The rooms are not too fancy, but for a family with 2 kids, it suits us well and it gave us the opportunity to nick into Melbourne to see the Myer windows.

The kids love the pool & spa (outside). We enjoy the pillow menu and love the cheese platter by the window watching the cars go by, when the kids are tucked up in bed.

I've often looked on wotif etc, but found the best deal was through the hotel itself.

Rooms are basic with 2 beds (in a twin), a small table with 2 tub chairs, a tv & bedside tables. The bathroom has a bath with a shower over it.

There is a restaurant downstairs, which serves breakfast, but see if you can get it in the price.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking Albert Park.

“Great place, great staff!!!!”

My husband and I decided to go somewhere during the holidays and we chose melbourne. I made my booking directly with the hotel. Rohan of reservations handled my reservation very well and he was really nice and pleasant. Upon arrival at the hotel (we arrived early), I asked Judith of front desk if it's possible for us to check in early as i was feeling dizzy and sleepy. To our surprise, we were not only allowed to check in early but we were even upgraded to a premier room. The room was nice and clean. The location of the hotel was great as it is near a tram station and only a few minutes away from all places of interest. Another big plus is their very affordable rates. Being in the hotel industry myself, I highly recommend Bayview on the park....

“Ok for the price, but very tired. Great for fans of Retro!”

Needed a hotel in Melbourne for 2 nights. A lot of time being out-and-about, so wasn't too worried about luxury, just needed a bed for the night, and that's how I'd sum up this property.

Staff that we dealt with were very friendly and lovely - particularly Angela at the front desk.

Room we initially checked into had air con that didn't work. A call to reception, and the Concierge was sent up to investigate. (No engineering staff on duty obviously). After fiddling around with the remote control, he ascertained it definitely wasn't working at all and said he would get back to us shortly.

Five minutes later a phone call from the front desk offering us a room change. Good work.

Concierge came back up and offered to take the bags, which was a nice gesture, however, we were fine on our own.

It's little things that can impress most in terms of service, and the concierge noticed that I had the cricket on the TV when he came to the original room, and had obviously been up to the new room and turned the TV on and tuned it to the cricket for my arrival - very nice! Air con had been turned on too, and was now fine.

Room was fine - quite clean. Bed and pillows were comfortable, and linen ok.
Towels in the bathroom were a bit scratchy, however, water pressure in the shower was great and hot water didn't run out, although it did take some time to come through. A very good selection of channels on the TV.

We were going to dine in with room service one night, however, as with many hotels, the prices in the menu were really over the top. Don't hotels realise they are probably burning business in their incidentals by charging so much for food? To me, it would be better to make a smaller profit and at least make something. This really annoys me in many hotels. You'd expect it in a 5 star, but not in a 3 star like this! (Just on that point, the hotel brochure in the room claimed it was a "4 star property", but maybe in 1985! Not now - definitely 3!)

The pool looked nice and clean, and many people swimming in it, although we didn't use it.

Finally, the car park was filthy with rubbish and trash EVERYWHERE! Looked very unattractive.

Anyway, if visiting Melbourne by car, would stay here again. Most hotels in the CBD have extortionist rates for parking, and it's free here, so that's a bonus for those with cars.

Tram stop to the city in St Kilda Road is only 5 minutes walk from the hotel. (If travelling from the city, get off at stop 26).

Fine enough for our needs, although definitely in need of a spruce up!

“Hidden gem! Check it out”

Stayed in the Premier Double room, with 2 double sized beds, $110/night. Room very spacious & clean. Facing Queens Rd & Albert Park & lake - nice view & quiet even though facing a busy street. 5 min walk to St Kilda Rd & trams. Very very convenient with the trams; 10min into city centre & 3min to St Kilda restaurants & shops!! Hotel has a mid sized pool, with a small wading pool for kiddies plus a reasonable sized spa pool. Plenty of sun lounge, chairs & tables. It also has a good sized gym although did not use it. Room rate included secure car parking, a real find! Had room service snacks, good portion size for the price although disappointed the potato wedges were soggy instead of crispy; may have been microwaved. Otherwise service prompt. Very happy with this place - highly recommended for the location & price!!
