I stayed in the Mecure Welcome for two nights in October. As a frequent visitor of Accor’s Ibis chain, I was looking forward to experiencing the higher level Mecure hotel. What I will say is that this hotel and the Grand Mecure to which it is connect (but should not be confused with) are in an excellent location. You can easily walk throughout the CBD and there are a lot of restaurants in the area to choose from. However, we were really disappointed with the hotel.

The room was small and overlooked a “courtyard” where the HVAC equipment was located. The window also faced all of the other rooms and so you had to keep your blinds drawn for privacy from your neighbors. The room was tired. The TV was antiquated. There were hangers for clothes but no drawers. The refrigerator was so loud that I unplugged it at night so that I could sleep. Parking is available for $15 per day, but a block away and down in the basement of a mall. This means you have to walk a way to get to your car with your bags. The Welcome does not have a gym but you can PAY to use the Grand Mecure’s gym.

In summary, a great location, but a disappointing hotel. There are other hotels in the area by the Accor chain which could be better.

2 person room (2 single beds) staying 2 nights. Aircon, TV, with kettle provided for your own coffee and tea. Room service available if needed.

Pros
- Excellent location. Walking distance to tram and train lines, tour bus office, shopping centres, internet cafes, brilliant spot to begin your journeys from.
- Pricing was fairly OK - we booked online and got free buffet breakfasts thrown in with our stay.
- Buffet breakfast was tasty and the atmosphere was nice, bright and busy.
- Staff were courteous and friendly.
- Room was neat and tidy.

Cons
- The toilet door is the sliding type, and it didn't slide completely shut - it had about a 2 cm gap. Frankly, this was embarassing. Had to keep the TV on loud while the other person did their business.

If I had been travelling solo I'd have had zero issues with my stay. I wasn't, so that cost the Room rating a few points. But the good outweighed the bad. Just check that your toilet door closes properly before setting out for your first day's sightseeing, not after!

The best thing about this place I would have to say is the location. The rooms themselves were a bit outdated and badly arranged. The view from our room was of a horrible courtyard and of other rooms in the building. A positive would be a very comfortable bed. We had a package deal to stay here on which not everything was delivered on. Even when we enquired about the missing items, nothing was done about it. The service was pretty average to not be too harsh. There was a restaurant and bar attached to the hotel. We did have breakfast here and I must admit the food was really good and reasonable value. The internet facilities was always busy, they might consider adding more?

The hotel is well placed in the centre of the city, handy for shops, attractions restaurants and transport. The lobby is well presented and reception staff are efficient, if a little frosty! We were a little disappointed by the corridors on our floor (7th floor) and the room. It wasn't terrible, but quite tired, smelled of smoke from the cleaners cupboard, and obviously still to be re-furbished. But for what we paid it was pretty good. We had room service from the hotel restaurant which was really good, but there are plenty more good restaurants around the hotel, feeding all tastes. There was a building site next to our room, which started up early in the morning and actually had builders working through the night on our last night's stay. This isn't the hotels fault at all, and we were fine with a pair of ear plugs in, but we weren't expecting it so it was a bit of a shock when we opened the curtains!
