This hostel was very lively with a bar and lots of events.
Check in was okay it took a bit of time to get everyone checked in though, and there were big ques. The hostel seem secure enough.
I stayed in a 4 bed dorm, the room was clean and tidy, the air conditioning was very noisey and noneffective, which was annoying on the warmer nights. The room was quite didn't get any noise during sleep and also contained a cupboard which could fit all my belongings. recommend bringing a padlock to lock the cupboard.
The Hostel could have been a little better maintained. The lift broke on a couple of occasions which made getting into rooms almost impossible. also the communal bathroom had a number of taps that didn't work for the duration of my stay (4 nights), the washing area also had a few machines that weren't working. the kitchen was well equipped, and the hostel offered free breakfast (cereal and toast). the dining area was a little small though. The hostel had a bar which was okay, a little quiet at times. The biggest annoyance with the hostel was the fact that alcohol not purchased on site was not meant to be consumed.
The hostel had free parking and a travel desk that was very good.

I was going to write a review in the standard way, but a list of good points and bad points will hopefully be more useful.

Good Points:

- Good location.
- Large Spacious Dorm Rooms.
- Clean.
- Comfy Beds.
- Good Storage lockers in the dorm with power points inside.
- Free Breakfast.
- Kitchen for guest use.
- Well maintained.

Bad Points:
- The reception was like walking into a loud drunken youth club when we arrived at night, the music was so loud that it was hard to think straight whilst checking in.
- The hostel accommodates a large number of guests making the communal areas and kitchen almost impossible to be in. Breakfast is so busy that it puts you in a bad mood for the rest of the morning. Same at dinner time if you want to use the kitchen.
- There is a night club in the basement that is under separate ownership from the hostel, it pumps out really banging house music until 4-5:00am! Why why why why!!!
- The walls are too thin between bedrooms, you can hear your neighbours moving around in the creaky metal bunk beds.
- The worst thing that can be said about this place is the awful atmosphere, you just aren't made to feel welcome by the other guests what so ever. I guess this is because the of long term guests thinking they own the place?

Stayed in a 4 bed dorm which was spotlessly clean and with great lockable lockers with charge points inside the lockers.

Bathrooms were clean, had trouble getting hot water. On our 2nd night the water was just luke warm!

Breakfast, although it was carnage, was great as could eat as much as you liked! Toast/cereal/tea/coffee.

Receptionists were brilliant and answered all questions needed.

In a fab location, close enough to walk to town and also had a tram stop just outside.

Would definitely stay here again :)

There is nothing good that you can say about this place!!!! The staff are so rude it is unbelievable, they definately have not been taught what customer service means. The guy with the bald head is the worst. You would think that the customer is always put first seeing as how you are paying to stay in the hostel but i think he forgets this. Also if you expect to have a hot shower, you have another thing coming! They are always freezing cold. The toilets are disgusting and the general atmosphere of this hostel is horrible. If you do one good thing in melbourne do not stay in Urban Central.
