Yesterday I returned from a 2 week tour of Tasmania and would like to let everybody know that Lake Pedder Chalet is now closed to the public. There is no accomodation there. It is a one and a half hour drive to Strathgordon and then a one and a half hour drive back out.

“Absolutely Fantastic - Go there!!”

We stayed at the Lake Pedder Chalet for two nights in total and it was the best thing we ever did on our stay in Tasmania. I cant advocate enough for how amazing the chalet and surrounding countryside is. We had a number of issues with bookings and our car on our trip all of which was accommodated by the chalet, whom went above and beyond their duties on every occaision.
When we arrived we were advised that we had been upgraded to a better room for no extra charge- the rooms are neat and tidy, nothing extravagant although if youve been camping and without a shower and a cooked meal they will seem luxurious. The meals are quite basic but with monster sized servings and are exceptionally well cooked - you can expect to pay an average of 15 dollars for a huge and delicious steak dinner!!
The lounge area in the chalet is comfortable and the staff are extremely friendly, they assisted us at every turn - helping us to find a local mechanic to help fix our car (who charged us the price of a few beers for his service), letting us use their local pool & indoor sports area for free when our bookings for the Gordon Dam abseil fell through, free internet & clothes washing facilities, free tea & coffee all day and many other perks and small touches from the staff which all add up! The chef even cooked us a special dinner which was not on the menu! In the late evening the staff also feed some beautiful local birds which you can view from the chairs outside. At the end of the time we spent there, 7 meals for two people and two nights of accommodation only cost us 380 dollars! (We later spent the same amount on only one meal and one nights' accommodation at Lemonthyme Lodge in "Cradle Mountain.")

I cannot recommend this chalet enough, please do yourself a favour and pay them a visit, even if it is just for one night you wont regret it!

“Loved the views”

rooms were small but definately value for money. Nothing flash, but was warm and clean.
The scenery in this wilderness is spectacular–craggy mountains reflected in calm lake water, full of fish. Bushwalking, rock climbing, fishing.. it's all here.

the staff was wonderful and a great night was had in restaurant/bar. Kitchen staff were very accommodating. good wholesome food and there was no skimping on servings. Our kids had a great time in the pool and tennis courts.
