nice hostel, perfect location, clean and best manager i have ever seen - very friendly, very helpful, arranged our tours, accommodation and train. thank you Nick (manager) for your great help. you are the best manager we have ever met on our trip. we had great time at your place and we will recommend your hostel to everyone. unfortunately, one of the staff orr the owner was very impolite and rude but overall it was fun in shakespeare backpackers. we will see you again in january nxt year.

“patronising and paraniod staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

premises are nice looking even if a little cramped, it is a backpackers after all.

overall our stay was nice, my girlfriend and i were in a mixed sex 6 bed dorm and the facilities were always clean and tidy.

unfortunately the manager insists on explaining life to you and made me regret making friendly small talk. what should have been a 2 minute conversation on how slow the drier was turned into an unpleasant lecture on humidity and clothing density.

the night manager and younger guy who works week shifts were both very friendly and helpful. although they seem to be very confronting, perhaps this is a result of the way their boss handles confrontation within the staff.

my partner and i left shakespeares with mixed feelings. the cheap rates and nice facilities were undermined by the pointless and infuriating conversations with a self important old man.

just dont talk for longer than you have to

“Great-stay here if you're in Adelaide!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

We arrived at this hostel-Shakeys-to be greeted by friendly, helpful staff that couldn't do enough for us. Check-in was from 12 noon however we arrived at 9am and the staff rushed around to make the room ready for us. We were also offered a free breakfast and use of all the facilities whilst we waited.
The room was clean but basic with comfortable bed and a quiet environment in which to chill and sleep.
The kitchen was clean and well equipped and backed onto an enormous TV room. Excellent location-right in the heart of Adelaide. We will be passing through Adelaide again towards the end of our trip and will be booking Shakeys again!
Thanks for the great stay Shakeys!!!

“I am a long term guest in this hostel and I really like it.”

It is a good place to meet other travelers in a relaxed atmosphere.
They have all the facilities you need, includung laundry machines, a big kitchen, computers, a lounge with a big plasma TV and Foxtel....
Pubs, restaurants, Chinatown and Coles are just around the corner and Rundle Mall is just a 10min walk away.
The beds are very comfortable and the hostel is quiet and safe with 24h video survilliance and night staff working.
The staff is really friendly and likes to help you with everything.

It just gets louder on Saturdays, because many people go out in this area so you can hear them being loud in the streets, but the easiest solution to that is going out yourself ;-)

“Highlight of my Australian hostel adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

I have stayed in Shakespeares hostel now for 3 months and have truly enjoyed it. It has a friendly laid back atmosphere that makes the place feel like home. They have an excellent TV room with free Foxtel and fast speed internet access in a comfortable, warm common room and more private internet access upstairs. They are also the only hostel i have stayed in with access to modern PC games which for me is a big bonus. The rooms are comfortable, cleaned often and in my experience never overcrowded. The location is excellent, right in the centre of the city for a good price and they offer good deals for the longer stayers. The staff are friendly and help to enhance the stay with excellent service. I strongly advise that if you are going to be staying in adelaide that you do it in Shakespeares. P.S right next door is a shop that serves the best yiros in Adelaide.
