“poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2008

Nearly at the used by date - Lumpty mattress, old, tattered and torn bed sheets. Bathroom in need of repair and a thorough cleaning. Breakfast just basic and hardly a sign of our host. No sitting room where one could relax, and you were imprisoned in your room. One chair for two people to sit, and to watch tv you had to sit on the bed.
You could sit outside in the cold under the verandah, but with a top temperature of 11C - no thank you!
Wet bath towels left with no where to dry them for the next morning - no hand towel.
My rating - not 3 star.

“loved the place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2008

We have stayed at with Mike and Julie twice.....on both occasions we had a great stay...the proximity to Henley Sq and the bus stop to Glenelg and the City was superb.

Michael drove me to Adelaide to pick up at hire car and on both occasions picked us up and dropped us off at the airport...at no charge!!! Julie dropped us off at a party so we did not have to drive....great couple.....

Breakfast was plentiful and a varied.....I can only say if you dont like it dont go back, however we certainly will go back...like the place and love the warm generosity of Mike, Julie and the kids.

“Shabby Chic?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2008

Would describe this B&B as shabby chic but more shabby than chic, would suggest that money be spent on the broken tiles in the bathroom and the poor quality bedding rather than the biggest TV I've ever seen in a bedroom. Also they advertise as a "bed & breakfast" but then tell you the breakfast is complimentary surely you've already paid for it.

“Friendly owners - willing to go out of their way to help”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2008

After reading through the previous review, I felt I should share my positive experience with the world about my amazing stay at Meleden Villa. From the moment we booked our holiday Michael and Julie did all that they could to help us and went out of their way. Upon arrival Michael and Julie were extremely welcoming and showed us around their beautiful villa. There was a sign up to say that the pool would be closed in the evenings, as they obviously need to add chemicals to the pool to ensure that people do not get sick. We took note of this and used the pool first thing in the morning or after our days activities. Our room was perfect - had everything we needed and the hosts spent time with us at the breakfast table helping us plan day trips. I found the convenience of the continental breakfast excellent and again there was everything that we needed and more. We went off fishing a number of times, took walks to Henley Square, went to the casino in Adelaide, visited the Barossa Valley and so the list goes on. There is a bus stop literally right outside of the villa so we were able to get out and about very easily. I truly believe that Michael and Julie have made Meleden Villa their own and we loved every minute there and with them. The fact that they are living their own lives as well as running the B&B is a credit to them and their family. The worst part about the holiday was leaving to come home! Thank you so much - we will definitely recommend you to family and friends.

“you need a car”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2008

Michael and Julie have taken over an existing B&B a couple of years ago. They are a nice couple but I am not sure they feel entirely at home sharing their home with strangers. Obviously most B&B’s pride themselves on offering a cooked breakfast which they make clear from the outset they do not. Which is fine except they still insist that breakfast is from 7.30 to 9.30. I was planning a trip which meant leaving at 7.30 which was before breakfast, and was offered breakfast in my room which I turned down but woulod have thought this would have been more work than me using the loely breakfast room. Afterall apart from putting the bread out in a basket, and putting on perc coffee what was there to do. But I had the biggest TV I have ever seen in my room
They have a pool, but the first time I went to use it (about 7pm) they had put chemicals in so it was out of bounds. They were genuinely very apologetic, but I feel this is an indication of them doing things to fit around their life and not that of their guests.
The location is a bit between. It was unsurprisingly very hot when I was there in January, and it was quite a walk to Henley square, the main place with shops, restaurants and phone box, but the only internet access was further on in the local library. I did take the bus to Glenelg and then the tram to Adeaide city. And managed to get the last bus back to Henley square at 5.15pm! So I think a car is essential if you stay here.
I had a problem at home so decided to move to Glenelg where I could get easy access to internet and public phones, in the middle of shops and restaurants, and for not much more than I paid I got a hotel room for two nights with a phone and broadband in my room. Of course I had already paid for the B&B so it turned out to be the most expensive two nights of my entire trip to Oz but for the internet, telephone and ease of getting food and getting around it was worth it. my experience with BB in Oz andin UK makes me rate this not very high.
