I booked My Place after seeing in the Lonely Planet that it was their top pick.

When I arrived at the hostel I was greeted at reception and the people on reception couldn't have been more helpful.

I had booked a dorm bed and was in a 7 share dorm which was ok, but there were some people who were staying long term who had stuff laid out everywhere, finding it difficult just to find somewhere to unpack my bag. The rooms didn't have lockers and as the doors didn't automatically lock on exit there were many times I came back to the room and the door hadn't been locked by others.

The hostel was freezing! I understand I was there in the winter, but I saw some people going to sleep with scarfs on. The bedding was ok, but could do with investing in some new pillows for the bed.

I was in an ensuite room and the bathroom in there was clean enough, but I happened to use the communial toilet on another occasion and it was filthy. There were no hot air dryers and the towel provided I wouldn't use to dry my dog!

Free breakfast was provided, but on the one day where I decided to have breakfast there was no milk left. The kitchen was dirty and there was only 1 cooker for everyone in the hostel to use.

I found the hostel quite noisy some nights but I was staying there near the end of the world cup so there were people in the TV room shouting at the TV, I;m just glad I wasn't in a room closer.

I also bought a voucher to use the internet but the couple of times I tried to use it the internet timed out.

Finally on the last day I had left my clothes out for the following day so I could pack my bag and when I came back from a day out and about I found them in the bin. Luckily enough for me just at the top and not dirty.

I certainly wouldn't go back here and definately would not recommend. I would spend a few extra dollars an night and stay at the YHA just down the street.

My place is a small and cozy hostel close to the CBD area in Adelaide. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The place is small and has a home feeling to it. Since I was there during Christmas time and most business were closed, I stayed in with other travelers and we had a bbq and fun at the balcony.
Definitely recommend staying there.

We stayed at this hostel after seeing a good review in 'Lonely Planet' .. but this time they got it wrong!!

The place was dark with very few windows and no air. It felt very dark and dingy although relatively clean.

There were only 3 showers and 3 toilets for everyone to share (44 beds). The 'free' breakfast consisted of one choice of cereal and some milk. When a fellow guest explained to reception that the milk had run out she simply responded that breakfast was finished.

We have stayed in some excellent hostels in Oz and this is the worst we have experinenced.

My Place was fine except that the two mornings I was there, the management had been unable to find standard milk for the breakfast, and only very light milk was available. I commented on how it was disappointing that this happened both mornings, and was told that the breakfast was free and so anyone who did not like it did not have to take it. The milk was the lightest light milk I have ever seen, so anyone concerned about cholesterol levels can take comfort from that. The management would do just as well to simply water the milk as it would probably save about $1,000 per year for the same effect.
I emphasise that both the quality of the milk and the response to my complaint were "disappointing" as the rest of the package, the hygiene, comfort, facilities and convenience were quite satisfactory for the cost.
