Pros:  Located right on Rundle Mall - a great central location surrounded by plenty of places to eat (try the little place right out the back on Austin St for breakfast).  There was a safe and a refrigerator in the room and our fifth floor room was very quiet.  The staff was very nice and really helpful.

Cons:  Located right on Rundle Mall, a 2-block pedestrian-only street, so you will need to haul your luggage about half a block down the mall from the airport shuttle drop-off point.  A taxi could drop you off on Austin St where you will just need to go thru the arcade to the hotel.  Parking is valet only.  The room had very little storage space and very expensive internet.

This hotel is tucked away in a shopping mall. It is very difficult to find if you are arriving by car - you have to navigate into a tiny lane at the back (no signs) and then wander through echoing, empty walkways until you find the place. Very odd. The rooms are large and decorated in a somewhat clunky style. They appeared to be clean, but one would not want to have to spend much time in them.The staff at reception were extremely helpful and pleasant: they deserve top marks for their effort and their general demeanour. They were cheerful, polite and obliging.
The breakfast, alas, was not all that impressive. A few skimpy items laid out on a table serves as the continental option, but one can order a cooked breakfast, which was fine. The overall impression in the dining area was one of parsimony, I'm sorry to have to say. The room in which breakfast is served is somewhat barn-like.
Really nice, helpful staff doing their best, and I would not wish to criticise them in the slightest. I think this would suit a person going on a shopping trip or somebody who just wants a clean place right in the centre of town. There will, undoubtedly, be many for whom it is therefore just right, and I think that the staff will certainly do their best to make such a stay comfortable.

I've stayed at the Hotel Richmond 3 or 4 times and its been pretty much the same each time - conveniently located in the cente of the city, a bit quirky, rooms a bit stark (but OK) and a great bar/restaurant and breakfast.

With a bit of tarting up, this could be a very trendy boutique hotel, but it doesn't quite make it - but no matter.

Location off Rundle Mall means its a short walk having been dropped off by taxi - I don't know what you'd do if you arrived by car. The rooms are comfortable without being snug; everything seems to work. I always ask for a room away from the mall front and upper floor, to avoid noise and so far its worked - but lower mall-front rooms may get noise.

The first floor bar / restaurant is the best part of Hotel Richmond - spaciously laid out, with lounges and tables and a terrace over-looking the mall. I love the breakfasts here.

Happy to go back.

It's a while ago (I've tried to erase it from my memory) and maybe they've improved - but then they really need to improve.
Room was adequately furnished but in a stark and cold style. The killer for us was the band/DJ/whatever striking up in what seemed like the room next door. Despite 3 calls to reception about the noise, they just got louder. Sleep was impossible, it was so bad we spat the dummy and checked out at mid-night and moved around the corner to the relative peace and quiet of the Hilton.
The upside - staff were very pleasant; they didn't attempt to charge us (possibly due to the steam coming out of my ears)
