“Value for Money”

Stayed with Chifley for 3 days just before Australia Day. Overall the stay was quite good, especially with the free on-site parking which was really a plus compared to other hotels in Adelaide City.

The only downsides to the room were related to the bathroom facility where the shower head was quite lowly fixed, and that the basin was also quite low. The room appeared to be unused for quite some times.

Overall, it was value for money despite other downsides.

I am pleased you enjoyed your recent stay and have provided a review.

Your comment regarding the shower fixture has been passed to maintenance for their advice on improving/replacing.

Free parking is certainly a major benefit when choosing to stay at our hotel, along with being able to leave your car and take a FREE TRAM into the CBD - so no parking fees incurred there either.

“I would stay again”

What I liked.

parking was on site and you can park in front of the reception which is difficult with other places in Adelaide

The King size bed was comfortable, my wife likes a softer bed and I a harder bed. We consider the bed and sleep the important aspects of the stay.

The AC worked, bit noisy for a couple of minutes but OK.

One of Adelaides best restaurant the Singapore House on Glen OSmaond Rd near the Arkaban Hotel was in taxi and easy driving distance.

The lifts a very loud and are stopped from working after 11pm.

The tram was a 5 min walk away which on the saturday was free??

What I didnt like

I would not want a room next to the lifts, byut they do stop after 11pm

Went for a drink late in the evening and thought there was a pub next door, need to walk a bit of a distance for a drink in a nice place.

They only seem to have one chap on duty at reception which can get busy for him, wasnt a issue for me

Overall a older hotel but we were comfortable and slept well. And the front desk staff were pleasent to us and welcoming.

Room Tip: Away from the lifts and the King room was comfortable

Your feedback on your recent stay is very welcome - Thank you. I am pleased your stay was enjoyable and you found the bed to your liking.

The Free Tram runs within the CBD area 7 days a week at all times of the tram operating hours - a real bonus as you can leave your car at the hotel and not incur any parking fees whilst in the city.

“Chifley”

We had a great 3 nights here just before xmas. The hotel is a little dated but very clean and comfortable. We got a wotif deal that included a full breakfast which was very good. Great to have free parking and a pool.(tho the weather wasn't good). Tram to the city centre only a short walk away.Staff very pleasant and helpful.

The customer service here was superb. This review has been along time coming. In 2007, I booked a hotel down the street from The Chifley through a well known travel website. When my seventeen year old son and I arrived late in the afternoon of June 14, 2007, the hotel was a bare bones structure under complete renovation. We were stunned and at a total loss with no cell phone and no one on site to talk to. We dragged our luggage up the street to the small motel next door who told us they thought The Chifley might be able to help us.
At the Chifley, they informed us that they were indeed taking in the reservations for the non existent hotel down the street, but we were not on that list. They did, however happily take us in AND at the price that we had booked. They gave us a spacious, comfortable room with a view out the front of the beautiful Kurranga Park and treated us like gold.
I would stay here again in a heart beat.

Room Tip: The views out the front (south side) are very good, but South Terrace is a busy street so a room on...

“Serious mould in the bathroom.”

Stayed here for 6 days in December in room 402. Room was very spacious and generally had what we needed. Others have talked about air con issues; it was 38+ for 4 days when we were there. AC wasn't strong, but room temp was fine as long as you left it on all day (we were also south facing, so didn't get any direct sun on our windows). However, there was a really significant amount of mould in the bathroom indicative of extensive neglect.

Although booked through we were actually spending our 2nd night off the premisis so I told reception about the state of the bathroom and asked that it be cleaned while we were away. On our return, the bathroom had not been cleaned. On this occassion I spoke with the manager on duty. We were more than 5 minutes into the conversation before he even apologised! I showed him photos of the mould, and he said that he would get house keeping to clean it right away. When I asked about compensation (especially in light of the fact we didn't even spend the night there when the cleaning was meant to have taken place), he actually said that him organising to have it looked at by housekeeping that morning was appropriate recompense. I disagreed and was required to put my complaint in writing to the front office manager. In the mean time, an attempt was made to clean the bathroom, although pockets of mould still occurred in places like between the shower screen panels (you'd have to be on the shower with the door closed to see it, nut this should still be clean, in my opinion).

I did write to the manager, asking for the charge for the night we didn't spend to be removed, and supplying my room number, mobile phone number and email address and asked him to contact me with an outcome. In the following 3 days, I heard nothing. On settling our account, we received a $50 discount on our room charge, with no message or follow up at all. Really disappointing! Crap attitude and service throughout.

Dear Travelbec

Thankyou for staying at our hotel and writing a review. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay.

I have spoken with the Front Office Manager and Housekeeping Supervisor in relation to your comments.

Housekeeping advised that extra attention is being made to ensure our Standards are maintained and that all attendants have been instructed on the need to promptly report rooms with excessive mould and grout problems. Housekeeping Supervisors will also be paying more attention to this particular area to ensure effective cleaning is adhered to in the first instance and not allow any build ups to occur.

The Front Office Manager advises that an attempt was made to contact you unsuccessfully by him and also instruction given to another Senior Team member to continue to follow this up further with you on his days off. Unfortunately this follow up does not appear to have occurred and we apologise that the matter has remained unresolved.

I have impressed upon all levels of staff and management the necessity for ensuring standards are met and maintained and the need to follow up personally with guests when issues are raised.

Please do not hesitate to contact me personally should you wish to further discuss this matter.
