“Fantastic economical place to stay”

Beautiful period house converted into rooms, cheap rates & includes continental breakfast & parking. Stayed here on the weekend to attend the cricket with my son & girlfriend & the 4 of us had the old Coach House at the back of the house. The rooms are dated but very clean & comfortable - beds were great & if they did them up I guess the tariff would increase. We had a huge room with 2 Q/S beds & 2 single beds separated into 2 rooms almost by a huge divider with a TV in each. TV reception was almost non existent in the 1 room but we weren't there to watch the TV! Beautiful leafy quiet area with seating under the trees & we took advantage of the top weather & spent a few quiet hours reading in this tranquil spot. Not sure on the comments re having no car as there is a free Adelaide Connector bus that stops about 3 mins walk away that takes in a huge loop of Adelaide into the CBD & beyond. A short walk to O'Connell St (4 mins) takes you to buses that will take you all over Adelaide for a few dollars & heaps of cafes, restaurants, & a supermarket. We caught a few taxis - $10 one way into the Casino & had a very pleasant short walk to the Adelaide Oval for the cricket.....we could of caught the bus but it was a gorgeous day for a walk. Front Office staff were very friendly & very helpful with our queries on the bus timetable, parking etc. The included continental breakfast was an unexpected pleasant surprise for the amount of tariff & basic but what do you expect for that kind of money?? - juices, cereal, toast, fruit & tea /coffee topped off a very pleasant experience.......Thankyou....we WILL be back!

Room Tip: Didn't see the rooms in the main house as we stayed out the back but the whole location was very...

“Cheap B&B motel”

Fantastic Edwardian house. Is very cheap, comes with breakfast. Has parking, you will need a car if you stay here or bring your hiking boots! It is a bit of a hike to the city centre.
Could do with some renovations, but I guess they would then have to put the prices up.
They have better maps of Adelaide than the tourist office; and lots of info.

“Budget accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2010

The location of this place is great. It's a lovely, quiet area. We had a car and there was adequate parking at the rear of the building. But without a car I think this location would be a nuisance as it's a bit far out of town.

It is a lovely big old house, but the rooms are dated. The small bathroom had a shower, mirror & toilet. But the hand basin was in the bedroom! This was really annoying! And the toilet was tucked alongside the shower, with not very much room either side. So I don't think larger people would be able to use the toilet comfortably. There was a desk & chairs in the room, which were adequate.

We stayed two nights and only dealt with one staff member. He was courteous and helpful. The continental breakfast was lovely.

Our room was equipped with a very old air conditioner. It really wasn't adequate for Adelaide's hot summers.

“Budget accommodation in genteel North Adeliade”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2008

The Princes Lodge Motel (more like a B&B than a motel) is, I concede, budget accommodation. However, I paid the bargain basement price of $AU63.00 per night for a basic room with simple continental breakfast! Sure the rooms are old, pokey and rather Spartan. But, the PL was clean, the staff pleasant and the location superb. The Princes Lodge is located in the heritage area of North Adelaide. The main building would have been a stylish house in its’ day. The ‘Coach House’ is also converted to several guestrooms. The Princes Lodge is only a 5-10 minute walk to the restaurant and pub strip in O’Connell Street. You would need to arrive by taxi or private vehicle as the PL is located a couple of blocks from public transport. In summary, the PL is far from 5 stars – but it is no Backpackers either. If you want to stay in a really nice area of Adelaide at a cheap price and are not expecting too much, the PL is worth a try.

  • Liked — Quirky and cheap - but in one of Adelaide's best areas!
  • Disliked — Its old and a bit rin down - but that's part of the charm.
