Me and a friend stayed at the Rendezvous Hotel Adelaide in for 4 nights in January 2012.
When we first arrived the reception area was without power. As we checked in the staff told us that they where temporarily having some power problems and that it was being fixed as we spoke. The lights kept flickering on and off so we took his word. Fortunately the lifts where working, our room was on the 8th floor.
Cutting a long story short: The next morning I was not feeling well and just wanted a nice warm shower but there was no hot water. I rang reception and they said "Oh thats not working either, bye". No apologies, nothing. After having a cold shower we decide to go explore Adelaide, we left the room and got to the lift. After waiting for several minutes we realised the lifts also where not working. We found a very poorly signposted exit to the stair well and made our way down. Most of the stairwell was not event lit, it was pitch black and yet it was meant to be an emergency exit. Luckily I had a light built into my phone that I used to get down the stairs. We found some other people in the stair well that could not get out. The doors where locked so they where stuck in the dark in the stair well. The 4 of us then continued to the very bottom of the stairwell past until we found a door that opened onto the street! I'm sure if there was a fire in that hotel people would die in the stairwells.
I continued to get sicker and ended up in the hospital with server dehydration and food poisoning. When I returned to the hotel to my surprise the lifts where not working again. I climbed the seven stories of stairs to my floor to find the door locked. I was stuck in the stair well again while suffering from dehydration. The hospital told me to rest and I found my self going all the way down the stair back to reception for them to tell me i had to use the stairs on the other side of the building. The stairway was also pitch black but with bath towels shoved between the door to keep it from locking shut. I finally made it back to the room. Later my friend also returned who was getting me some medicine. He told me he met a woman as he was come up to our floor that said she was stuck in the lift for 45min the day before!
By this stage all the guest where asking for new hotels, we decided to do the same. Reception told us we would be transferred to another hotel and that we would just have to bring our bags down to reception. Up the pitch black stairs we went then back down them with our luggage! We explained to reception that we have dinner plans with friends and that we would like to be transferred once we get back from dinner (which we where already late for). Reception said that would be fine.
When we returned from dinner we asked for our luggage so our friends could drive us to the new hotel. Reception said, "No, the power is back at the moment, we will not be transferring you" I expressed my anger then agreed to stay in our current room. Thats when they told us they couldn't find our booking and that we couldn't get back into our room. They had no record of us ever staying in the hotel.Cutting it short... half and hour later we where aloud back into our room.
Worst service ever! If this hotel shows any signs of power failure if you ever stay there, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!
