“Avoid if possible! Do not GO! Poor serivces from pub/hotel owner!”

Stayed there for a night because we had to. First of all, the pub/hotel owner was not friendly and helpful at all, so obvious that he is money orientated! The beds and blankets were dirty, the water from the tap was salty. So basically we were having salty showers and no drinking water was available. So the only way for clean drinking water was to purchase it from the pub. $6.00/bottle and $28.00 for a dish of garlic prawns. A bit over-priced but there is no other choice.

Will definitely not go back! Disappointed with the services offered.

“Just because it is the outback, it needn't be filthy”

We originally booked a 4 bedroom room with shared facilities for $140. When we got there around 7pm, we were given the keys to a partitioned container in the camp (which was supposedly closed) and he only charged us $100. Inside absolutely nothing but 3(!) beds. The shared facilities were disgusting, dirty and filthy. When I complained about the missing 4th bed, he has thrown me the keys to a separate partition with a single bed. The guy had a very poor attitude, others observed the same thing.

It was fairly clear that he has overbooked and has given our booked room to someone else even though he had my credit card details as security. Either that or he lied about having a 4 bedroom room, but the change in the price would not explained that.

Upon leaving, when I asked him what happened, he made comments like, "welcome to the bush... P.ss off!".

Later on I learned that William Creek never had this many people for a new years night (10-15). Apparently, the owners are getting out in 1 month time and clearly are sick of the whole place and they don't give a damn! The guy who runs the flights to the Lake mentioned that he is building his own accommodation facilities and it will be fitted out nicely in a few months.

Also, be careful as there is no drinking water at all. Luckily we had all our supplies.

Thanks for the William Creek Hotel to ruin a perfect New Years night in the bush...

Room Tip: This is just a warning not to stay at the William Creek hotel!! Perhaps the ensuite facilities are...

“A memorable place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

Most remote locations like this have not much to offer accommodation wise. We stayed at the campsite with our 4x4 turned to camper.

The facilities at the campsite are very basic and a bit old. The price is relatively high but what do you expect in the middle of nowhere of nowhere.

The bar/restaurant are nice. The food is decent and you can get a bottle of wine as well. Considering the location the prices are reasonable although the fuel prices are quite high.

The bar is indeed a typical outback pub with teh standard collection of T-shirts, bras, business cards, and other stuff people apparently did not need anymore.

Overall it is a good experience while driving along the Oodnadata track for 1 night. You can also organize a flight over Lake Aire from here.

The oodnadata track itself was fun due to the old railroad track and all the buildings along the way. The road was pretty good when we travelled here in April 2011.

“Very, very basic”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

We stayed here for 2 nights during a family outback trip. The accommodation was a block of old style demountable cabins in two rows facing each other. If you expect anything above very, very basic you will be disappointed. The beds were inadequate and the rooms tiny and dirty. The bathroom was about 50 metres away along a dirt pathway and shared with various other guests. During the night various guests could be heard talking as the rooms had paper thin walls, and there was little privacy.
The Hotel itself is about 300 metres away and serves excellent gourmet meals and the staff were friendly and helpful. The bar is full of outback memorabilia so take your camera. As William Creek is a long way from anywhere else there's very little choice.
This is probably the closest place to the Western side of Lake Eyre, but still a long drive away.

Room Tip: Try and avoid the camping ground rooms unless you are desperate.

“2nd Aus Outback Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We have traveled the 5 continents, visiting many countries and stayed in accommodation in 3rd world countries. At WC we stayed in the Camp Site accommodation and it has to rate as the worst accommodation we have ever stayed in on holiday. I note from previous reviews comments that one should not expect any facilities with the accommodation??? Why not, the pleasure of staying in places adds greatly to the enjoyment of the holiday but in the case of WC we stayed 2 nights which was 2 nights to many. We had a box room with a bed in it and not a lot else at prices that elsewhere on our trip we were getting very comfortable accommodation. Our expectations were not very high but the Camp Site cabins I would not recommend to anyone.
I did not see the Hotel accommodation so cannot comment on it, and it may be ok for camping.

Room Tip: Plan your trip with the minimum stay in WC
