From the moment we arrived (which took 7 hours from Adelaide) we were bitten by the biggest flies I've ever seen. Bundled on a little train and driven to the resort, which at first looked and seemed like the brochure. However, this was to be the worst holiday of my life.
We stood at reception with the 30 other weary travellers to check in. 1 hour later we were taken to our room. At first we thought, "wow"! But once we looked properly our happiness quickly turned to despair.... the bed had sand in it! YES SAND! So obviously someone had made the bed without changing the sheets... eeewww! Then after we got this sorted we went down to the main beach for a swim... the tide was about 1,000m out! After we spoke to some of the dive staff we were told that to swim there we'd need a suit (to stop the stinging from the jellyfish) and we'd have to pay for the suit! How bout NO!!!!?
This is only a drop in the ocean... the restaurant smorgasbord was disgusting.... the cigarette machine wasn't working (ON AN ISLAND) and when I asked for the manager I was told he was over the other side of the island in his accommodation and wouldn't be returning until tomorrow! WTF? The female waiter told me this and I quote, "just bludge smokes off the other guests"!
We hired 2 jetskis the next day over the other side of the island and this was fun.
We met a lovely couple who I sometimes email still. He was asking her to marry him and booked a helicopter flight and picnic to propose. They were dropped off at a secluded beach over the other side of the island... he was in the army... thank goodness he was! He had to build a fire to keep the huge flies away! The champagne in the picnic lunch was a $3.99 special and the salad and cheese was rank! This cost him $250! The pool bar closed at 6pm every night and the main bar at 11pm. There was no service poolside you had to go and get everything from the bar. The pool was packed with people and kids as it is very small.
I can't go on as it is far too much.... I felt like Maryanne on Gilligan's Island... I was marooned and wanted to get off!!
