If self contained self catering is what you are after, this is the perfect option.
We paid for garden view apartment but were upgraded to the sea view apartment (level 5 upwards have amazing panoramic ocean views). The apartments consisted of 1 bedroom with a kingsize bed and day bed that converted to a single for one of the kids. The main living area had 2 sofas which also converted to single beds (we needed to make these single beds up, it's not part of the service). With 3 kids and 2 and would would have preferred something with 2 separate bedrooms.
The cost of food and drink on the Island is much higher than the mainland so it really pays to bring supplies with you ( if like us you prefer to invest your money in diving/reef trips).
We noted that The Reef View Hotel next door had similar accommodation but the bonus of a kids stay and eat free program. This would have been a really sensible option and saved some cost when we ate out.

We arrived on hamilton island on 30th nov and stayed till 5th dec.There was a bus waiting in the airport to take us to Whitsunday apartments.We stayed on 11th floor.The apartment was very spacious and immaculate.It had a very well equipped kitchen.Initially we had trouble using the kitchen appliances but as we informed the reception they sent someone right away to help us.The view from the balcony was breathtaking..The resort itself had a very welcoming and comfortable ambience.The hotel staffs were very friendly.The location is fantastic...just 5 mins walk to the marina village.A free island shuttle bus drops in at the resort every fifteen minutes to take guests to the marina...unfortunately there is no restaurant in the resort but there are few takeaways and restaurants in the marina...there is also a general store where you can buy all your groceries and cook in the apartment.Contrary to popular belief food is not extremely expensive in the island..so overall we had a very pleasant experience staying at whitsundays holiday apartment...

Walk into the apartment put your luggage away, and have a refreshing drink on the balcony overlooking catseye beach. Take the courtesy bus over to the marina and restaurants and bars or take a 10 minute walk. We enjoyed the many activities, snorkelling with the fish at low tide, driving gokarts, play golf at the most spectacular setting for a golf course that I have seen. The ferry over to the golf course is only 5 minutes and is inclusive. Food is good at every food outlet from the pub to the restaurants to the fish and chip shop to the deli.
Relax on the beach with a cocktail or a mocktail for the kids. Sail a catamaran, paddle a boat or lay on a sun lounge at the tropical pool setting. You can even enjoy an outdoor spar. All this and more and the breakfast overlooking Catseye Beach is something we will be comming back for.

we were at first apprehensive given the mixed reviews, but enjoyed the place immensely. It's a great price, and our apartment slept 4-5 people [though only one double bed, the others are flat sofas [not a fold out bed, just a narrow couch, so that may be a problem for some. Front reception staff are very helpful, its great having free shuttle service included. Best part is having all non-motorised sports included - such as snorkelling, paddlesurfing, kayaking, catamarans etc all for free with your hotel card [glad we didn't have to pay each time we wanted to do stuff like that!...if you stay elsewhere on the island, eg private places, these aren't usually included].

Don't forget to do the walk that runs behind up to the lookout....absolutely beautiful views across the group of islands, a must do! [but don't forget hat and sunscreen] .

We booked via a travel agent who was able to book rooms that weren't available directly through the hotel website/or other online ones...which was great as we were able to specifically book a seaview room higher up int he building. Its worth it, as waking up to those views are one of the most magical feelings i've ever felt.
