“The Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We loved this place , infact we booked more nights strait after walking in the door.
Everyone was helpfull , the morning and and nature tours where great and it was a great time had by all. Theres heaps to see and do , esp if you bring your own 4x4. If you dont there still plenty to do and see from fishing to nature tours or just hang by the pool and relax.
Sure its on $$$ side but in the end its an amazing place.

“beautiful hotel, amazing island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

we spent 3 days at kingfisher,
nice hotel, little bit old style, girls at reception very unpolite,
avoid restaurants inside the hotel (expensive and bad),
go to pizza food court, enjoy the amazing island.
maybe nicer new places to live on the other side of the island.
check it out, but consider the tides.

It's never our intention for guests to leave our resort unsatisfied and I sincerely apologise that we have failed on impress on this visit. There is no excuse for staff being impolite or rude and I have shared your feedback with the Front Office Team here to assist us in improving service standards.

We've also been listening to feedback regarding our food and beverage and we are 100% focused on improving this product offering.

what i am about to say , you better read carefully because its no BS. The resort is ok if you are there for the four wheel driving and to visit lady mckenzie. But if you are visiting for beach holiday, luxury , then you will not find it here.

Accomodation:

1) We stayed at the villa in Dec 2011 and although its clean it is not a luxury. It only looks that way because of the accomodation fees which is not worth the money

2) It has only got one bathroom. I am very particular about my bathroom so 4 people sharing a bathroom is not a good thing (for me).

Beach

1)_ Thousand of years ago, you could walk from mainland Hervey Bay to Fraser Island. Well, well well, it shows because its a muddy beach.

2) Its is shallow. Good for kids but not for grown ups.

Dingoes

1) I was there for 3 nights and four days with my family. We went to Lake Mckenzie, did a lot of four wheel driving, went to Eli creek and yet did not see one bloody Dingo.

Food

This is important if you like your food and you will not find it here. Buffet is sub par but they dont have any problem charging you ( No choice).

People

Because Kingfisher Bay Villa has a kitchen, the yobbos from the mainland Hervey Bay will be inviting all their friends to come and join them , next thing you know, loud beer Yobbo party next door.

There you have it.

Room Tip: Stay in the Villa if you have teenagers and try to but meat at the mainland Hervey Bay, They provide...

Dear MrsNoBS
Thanks for taking the time to comment about your recent trip to the island. I wanted to apologise that we have not met your expectations in a number of areas including food and beverage - please know that we have been listening to feedback and have made some positive changes in this area; more are on the way.

We've also noted your comments regarding the bathroom in your villa and about a 'luxury holiday'. At no time in our marketing collateral do we position ourselves as 'a luxurious' beach resort - if anything, it would be described as laid back luxury. On this website, you'll also find floor plans and descriptions of villas - including number of bathrooms. Some of our holiday houses have multiple bathrooms and our sales team would be more than happy to help out.

I also wanted to let you know our Reception team are more than happy to assist all of our guests if your neighbours are making excessive noise. We look forward to welcoming you back to Fraser and hope you will give us the opportunity to serve you better.

“Not Great!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My partner just had a 2 night stay at the Kingfisher Bay & were really disappointed.
The grounds of the resort were great - couldn't complain really... Until we got to the room.
The room was very out of date & in need of some serious TLC! We opened the door to sit out on the balcony only to have the doors fall off!!!!
The ancient shower fixture that flew out of the grip every time you turned it on - soaking everything!!!
Then there were the ants... The ants that woke us up at 2am... crawling all over us & the bed!!! GROSS!!!!!
The food was nothing short of disgusting at the sand bar, the breakfast was just as bad & as for the "al a carte" well I've had better that came out of a tin!!

This hotel seriously needs re-rating as it is no way a 4*

It is better than the Eurong Beach, but not by much!!

The best thing about this hotel were the guys at Aussie Trax the 4x4 hire company on site!
Great service & very friendly... unlike every other member of staff we came across!!

Room Tip: CAMP!! Don't stay here!!

Dear Laura_Loo_London
Please accept my apologies that we have failed to impress on this visit. Firstly, thank you for drawing the problem with your screen door to our attention, this is an easy fix if reported to our Front Office team and we invite you to contact us direct on feedback@kingfisherbay.com with your room details so we can add to our maintenance schedule.

Please accept my apologies regarding the ants in your room - which can happen if previous occupants have had food in room. Our Front Office team would've been more than happy to allocate a new room for you had it been reported when you were in house.

I want to assure you that we have been listening to comments about our food and beverage and I'm sorry we didn't meet expectations. A new Executive Chef will start at the resort shortly and a food review is currently underway. Our staff comment rating from guests is high, however we will be refocusing on customer service to ensure we deliver our best.

We hope you will give us the chance to serve you better and invite you to contact us directly (on the email address above) when next you stay and our Resort General Manager will personally oversee your stay.

“Dissapointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We decided to invite friends up from the Sunshine Coast to join us for a special birthday celebration ~ wish we hadn't!
There were no seating options offered when booking so we brought the 'special occassion' to the attention of the young lady who seated us, asking if it were at all possible to be seated outside on the deck area as there were plenty of tables set up & not occupied. The short answer was 'NO'. We watched that space all night & four (4) tables were still vacant at the end of the night. How hard would that have been to satisy our request?
The food on offer semed to have only just met the thawed out requirement as most of it was icey cold, bland & wet, I could have squeezed a cup of water out of the couple of the rather tastless bugs that I had. The salmon was dry & again lacking any flavour, the fruit platter was ineddible as al of the offerings were green, something that should have been picked up in the kitchen when being sliced. If you decide to experience it for yourself & waste your money make sure that you take your own ice cream scoup as there is only one for all to use with the six buckets of ice cream choice on offer & a dirty glass of water to rinse it in between kids helping themselves.
The whole place lacks atmosphere & certainly looks very tired, the bar area was dead, an old piano covered over & shoved into the corner, no entertainment (on a Saturday night!) & when this was mentioned to a member of staff they just said ' you are supposed to make oyur own entertainment'.
When walking out through the main entrance to wait around for 20 minutes or more for the transport back to the 'Barge' look up & see the dirt, grime & bird poo spattered all over the glass that never seems to have been cleaned ~ Probably a nice place when it first opened but has been let go & needs a good shake up.
One question also ~ how come the pool is not fenced?

Dear Mark S
Thank you for taking the time to post your review and please accept my sincere apologies that your special night was not to your expectations. I invite you to contact us on feedback@kingfisherbay.com with more details of your stay so we can follow this up with our team - we had live entertainment this Thurs, Fri and Sat nights, so we assume your visit must've been earlier in the year.

I wanted to let you know we now have multiple ice cream scoops and our Public Space team have the front windows next on their list.

Thank you also for your question re pool fences. The Local Government allows integrated resorts exemption from having pool fences - as you've seen we also have natural water courses, ponds and an ocean fence which is not practical to fence. The intent of the law is to secure backyard pools from drownings, as these are where most accidents occur.
