“Over priced and poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I stayed here over the weekend and booked at the last minute at 243$ dollars a night for a two bedroom apartment. The rooms were clean enough but there was no air-conditioning and one pedestal fan in one of the bedrooms. I didn't realize until we got there that air-conditioning cost extra and you needed to ask for it (along with the fox tell). We stayed there in January, and Queensland at this time is hot and humid. Unfortunately asking for the air-conditioning once you arrived on a satruday wasn't possible because the office/reception isn't open it would seem until Monday morning. We had to pick the keys up from a safe/drop box and the only instructions we were provided with were what not to do at the hotel e.g. Don't play loud music after a certain time etc etc. We had to make an educated guess with regard to where we should park and there are no lifts while I am all for women's independence walking up to the third level with our bags was exhausting. Overall, it felt as though we had booked ourselves into some sort of juvenille detention camp with all the rules, regulations and little about enjoying our stay. I might expect to find this in cheap accommodation where there might be problems with the 'types' of people that are staying there but at 243$ a night it was hardly cheap and it made me feel like they just assumed everyone that chose to stay there was a schoolie or something. To top it all off my friend left an expensive pair of shoes in I the room that have apparently disappeared....I phoned the hotel and was told that no shoes had been handed in. Both myself and my friend agreed that it is the worst place that we have ever stayed on the gold coast and we won't be going back.

“Great Location but in need of some serious TLC”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2011

I booked this apartment over the internet and when trying to contact them to confirm details I had no response whatsoever. That should have been a sign. The hotel is in a great location - walking distance to Cavill Ave in Surfers Paradise. However, the state of the apartment left a lot to be desired. For a deluxe apartment - the shower had mould in it at the bottom, there was a 2 seater sofa for a 2 bed apartment, the cane furniture was all falling apart, the microwave was still covered in food, and the bed head whilst a queen size was only covering a double bed despite saying on the internet it would have a queen bed. If this was the deluxe apartment I feel sorry for the other people staying in the ordinary apartments. The pool area was nice however the spa didn't work. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

“beautiful place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2011

surfers del ray was a beautiful place to stay and was great and affordable for people with small children, Though it was pretty dirty when we arrived, toilet and bath room were really dirty had to buy my self some cleaning products and clean it before hand,
the room has a split system in it but you can only use it for an extra $10 per night, lucky for us the weather wasnt too hot when we stayed,
there was a washing machine and dryer in the room which i really liked, the bedrooms were a good size and had pleanty of cupboard space,
great secure parking
definately would not be suitable for a person in a wheel chair as there are alot of steps and even with us having double pram it was hard taking it up and down
but over all other than it being a tad grubby it was nice affordable and close walking distance to beach and supermarkets etc

“Sly ! Sly ! Sly !”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2011

My friends and I stayed here for a week for Schoolies and were treated well during the week, friendly staff who were helpful. The room was large, spacious and completely as described with a nice view over the river. The beds however were rock hard and after paying for a 5-bed apartment, one of the beds was in fact a rollaway with a mattress about 2 inches thick ! Not what you expect when you pay $500+ per person !!

My sour attitude towards this hotel comes from the sly actions of the hotel manager once we'd checked out.

We each paid $200 bond and expected the whole amount to be refunded as we'd fully abided by the rules and left the apartment absolutely spotless. Upon applying for our bond refund we found that we'd each had $30 taken for "Extra Room Cleaning".

Upon contacting the hotel and asking why this money was taken, the manager said the carpet was dirty. WE HADN'T EVEN TOLD HIM WHICH ROOM WE WERE STAYING IN !! Goes to show that this must be a frequent lie they use to claim bond money, knowing that there's nothing we can do about it as it was paid prior to check-in.

We asked the manager for photo-proof and this conveniently could not be provided, so when asked for an invoice for the supposed "carpet cleaning", I was emailed a scrappy excel spreadsheet that said "carpet cleaning" and "additional room cleaning" $150. So there was no legitimate record of any extra cleaning or professional carpet cleaning for that matter.

After trying to get through to the hotel, I was yelled at, mocked and hung up on !!

“never again .... ick !!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2011

Booked after getting a deal from www.wotif.com.
We given a ground level apartment and it was very dark and not much natural light came into the room.
When we booked we asked for a porta cot as we have an infant son ... upon arrival there was no cot... the manager had to go to the shops and buy one .... but then there was no matress or sheets, so we had to share our with him - NOT IMPRESSED !!!!!
The whole place felt dirty and the furniture was yuck and I felt like i was going to be attacked by bugs and the carpet felt awful also.
One of the couches in the lounge was broken and I fell through it - not good when I was pregnant.
Pool was ok, didn't think it was very cool that the manager was hanging out in the pool with his mates though and booked the BBQ for himself ....
The oven was rubbish.
I would never recommend this place to others .... YUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
