I stayed at Focus Apartments over the xmas holidays and was pleasantly surprised by the size of the apartment and the gorgeous ocean views from every room. The grounds were large and I especially liked using the gym every day. My partner liked the fact that it was across the road from the beach and we both liked that it was a patrolled beach.

The apartment had been renovated and was spotlessly clean and the location was just great. We ate at the chinese restaurant downstairs one night and the food was lovely. All in all we had a great time and have booked to stay again.

Seaarching the Internet for our accommodation, Focus apartments appeared to be the best! Great Price, location and the rooms looked so fresh, clean and new - we didn't hesitate to book straight away. Upon arrival, tired and ready for a rest from the red eye flight (no sleep) we were all looking forward to getting to the room. Only when we opened the door, the room was nothing like the website - it was dirty, old looking and just felt gritty. The girls found a bed and went to sleep. I however looked through the room. It really was dirty! I rang reception to question if they accidently gave us the 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom standard room. I was told "No this is the superior room". I advised them that someone needed to come up and re clean the room (Which within 1/2 hour were in the room re cleaning it). The Kitchen was not cleaned, oil on the tiles, food still crusted on the benches, floors not swept and carpet not vaccumed. Ciggarette butts on the balcony. The cleaner told me that this is one of the better rooms and we should feel lucky! The kettle was plugged into a broken power point with wires exposed, the bathroom power points were loose and not safe to use, the ceiling above the shower/spa bath was falling down, the stove top was eroded. The washing machine wouldn't spin dry the clothes (Took me an hour to just to get the water out from the machine). The Balcony windows were that dirty, the veiws were hard to see anyway! None of the ceiling fans worked in any of the rooms.
The website is very decieving, it looks so new and fresh, but in reality not what you expect on arrival at all. They sent an electrician to fix the kettle power point and someone to maintain the washing machine - this helped! Definately not a 4 + star stay. Focus needs to change their rating to only 2 star, then you would expect the old and dingy feel of the room, not the glossy, fresh and modern images from their website. Reading some of the reveiws, our room we stayed in was referred to by the managers response as a standard room - so this is confusing. Perhaps I should have demanded to see some of the other rooms that were not as good as ours? I believe Focus apartments need to do some renovations and make the rooms look like the website or upload photos and description that truley reflect the rooms available - "Great veiws, location and within minutes to beach, restaurants and shopping. Experience gritty rooms, in need of repair and maintainence, not the cleanest, but under the circumstances of such old rooms that have not been maintained this is expected! I will not reccommend Focus Apartments and will not stay at them again in the future. Thank you for allowing me to share my view...

Stayed here on another travelfactory deal $379 3 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment . Hubby and i took the grandkids away on a pre Xmas holiday ..We had a great time. Property is well located and is very quiet. Will be back

We booked a 5 night stay for a Superior Two-Bedroom Apartment at the Focus Apartments through the Internet. Before we booked, we had a look at their website and saw the pictures, and they were so modern and flashy. We compared Focus to a few other hotels on the Gold Coast and my children selected Focus on the basis of the fancy and modern pictures. On the booking confirmation it stated features as a private balcony with ocean views, full kitchen and laundry facilities and non smoking. When we entered the room, we saw it was nothing like the pictures. When we tried to change rooms, the staff said that they could do nothing.

Here are the positives and negatives of Focus.

Positives
* Good view if you get an apartment facing the sea.
* 10 min walk to Cavill Ave(centre of Surfers Paradise)
* Swimming pool and spa are good

Negatives
* Staff on arrival are dishonest (Before we arrived, we rang the hotel and we were guaranteed a view.( Also on the booking confirmation with ocean views) but then when we arrived there, the checking staff said she could not not guarantee us a view. We advised her that we rang yesterday and our room was confirmed with a view then we were given room 66 on floor 16. When we requested a room on a higher level, the staff said that no other rooms were available. Then the next day I met a family who had booked a 2 bedroom Superior apartment through the internet, just like us. They checked in on the same day at 7: 15pm, nearly 3 hours later than us, and were given a Superior two bedroom apartment room on the 25th floor, with 2 new bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen.)
* Room was dirty(we got black feet)
* All curtains were mouldy, and the ones in the main bedroom could not close or open.
* Furniture was dirty, full of sand(so was one of the beds).
* The balcony was not cleaned properly, there was a cigarette pack left there even though we specified a non smoking room.
* There were cockroaches and sand on the beds and moths in the lights
* The shower door in the ensuite could not close fully, so water began spurting out
* Paint was peeling off the top of the ensuite bathroom.
* The bottom of the bath in the other bathroom was dirty and full of black spots.
* Tiles were cracking in the ensuite bathroom.
* The room is only serviced if you stay 8 days or longer
* The room is not like the photos on the website. It was very old, dirty and grubby.
* There was no aircon in our room. There were only two fans in the wardrobe in the second bedroom (but they did not work) and we had to keep opening the doors to keep cool.
* There was a funny smell in the lifts and on the ground floor.
* We booked a two bedroom superior apartment and we got, what we believe was a three bedroom standard apartment( one of the rooms did not have a door.)

Overall. It is a good location with good facilities for families and we would stay if the rooms looked like the pictures on the internet. I would suggest staff/ owner to upgrade the cleaning service to the advertised(4 star) level, do something about the smell on the ground floor and the lift and allocate the room as per the booking to avoid guest disappointment.
