“NOT BAD”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

My husband and I stayed Feb this year and found the Mantra Legend more than adequate for what we paid. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Balcony was on the small side with only one chair on it. Bathroom was clean and adequate for our needs. Breakfast was average and they had beautiful smoothies every morning not just your usual juices. I agree with other reviewers that it was hard finding something to watch on the t.v as there was'nt many channels to choose from and no foxtel. But all in all we had an enjoyable time.

“Dirty - bad service - do not stay!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

The location may be good, but we had a very bad experience at this hotel. The cleaners on day one just walked into our room with out knocking! I had left cloths on my bed- and when they came to clean it the cloths were thrown on the floor. We didn't get new planets or cups
Everyday. When we complained to the manager all we got was an appology letter and a cheap bottle of wine. Very disappointing.
The rooms are small . They are also very basically furnished. The floors are very dirty and the beds ARE EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!
The staff are not helpful and know little about the area. It got a bit noisy some nights. In the morning the cleaning staff make alot of noise in the rooms surrounding ours so we always have to wake up early.
Overall I will not stay here again, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

“Generally dissappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The place is not the most expensive but not cheap either at about $200 a night. Room are small and basically furnished. Bathrooms were the best part of it - strong flowing water from the showersheads. Coffee cup stains did not engender confidence re cleanliness. Breakfast was no more than average.

Nothing inspired me in this place. Was as cheap and cheesy as Surfers itself. Service at the desk was ok, though received follow up calls as mistakes were made at check in re credit card deposit.

Not a place I would want to spend more than a night. Had little option on this particular occassion. Was happy to leave.

“Good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Mantra legends was in a great location, close to the centre of Surfers. We stayed on the 18th floor with a nice view of the beach.

Balcony a bit small, but okay for me because I am a smoker.

On the downside, the bathroom had hair from previous occupants, the tv SUCKED, no proper channels and $16.95 a movie? What? Plenty of channels (5) for sport, did I mention I loathe sport? The room wasn't cleaned, bed not done, rubbish not removed (we were there for 3 nights). We had to ask for towels when the cleaners did decide to turn up.

The breakfast was okay, eggs were disgusting (microwaved - eww) but not really worth the $17.00 per person.

I didn't find the staff overly friendly, but that's okay. The mini fridge was stocked which was nice, but couldn't find a price list. Was overcharged on final bill but all sorted quickly.

I think I'll give mantra a miss next time, plenty more modern hotels available in the area.

“Great Value for Price we Paid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed for 2 nights for our anniversary with a wonderful deal with Wotif. For the price we paid, we had great value for money. However, for the "normal" price it is quite average in what is provided. We were on the 18th floor and so had excellent views but these were essentially the canals and the ferris wheel rather than the ocean which was obscured by large buildings in front of our window. The lifts were amazingly modern and we liked the keyless entry to our room - just held up the card to the panel. We were upgraded to a "deluxe" room which, it appears just meant that we had a dishwasher, microwave and a very small number of kitchenware - just 2 cups, 2 glasses, 2 plates etc etc. The bed was good - kingsize. The TV was flat screen which was great except that it did not show the digital channels commonly available on the Gold Coast. As we wished to see the Australian Open tennis, we actually drove to our home to watch it as it was not available on the stations provided at the time we wished to view it. This was very disappointing. The bathroom was clean but rather small and there were minimal products provided - 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner etc. As the room is only serviced once per week, if you wish to get clean towels or more products, you need to call Reception. We did this on our 2nd morning and were assured that we could get them. However, they never arrived!! My husband went to Recption himself and got 2 beach" towles, some shampoo but couldn't get Conditioner. This is not really good enough for a hotel which claims to be of the calibre of Mantra. I ended up using my own Conditioner which I had brought from home. I would have been very disappointed had I been an overseas or interstate guest relying on the service of the hotel. On the plus side, the breakfast were superb and both mornings we were greeted by a charming gentlemen (I think his name was Vince). He was so friendly which was more than could be said for the employees in the restaurant who were polite but quite distant and cool. The location of Legends is very good - central to the main part of Surfers and close to the beach. However, this whole area and, indeed, Legends is showing it age. At "normal" rates, I would say that a traveller could do much better in one of the comparable hotels in Surfers or Broadbeach, the latter being a much nicer area but with less attractions.

Room Tip: Aim for a room on a higher level with an uninterrupted ocean view
