“Great location, great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

After reading the reviews it was with some trepidation that we arrived at this hotel, how wrong some of these comments are!! We were warmly welcomed by the receptionist and found even though we were an hour and a half early our room was ready for us. We found our "budget" room booked on wotif was on the 15th floor and had a fantastic ocean view!! The room was clean and well appointed, we understood the room was unrefurbished but the bed was huge and extremely comfortable! All the staff we encountered were exceedingly pleasent and helpful. We were pleasently surprised to find the parking was on site and only $15 per night - try finding that sort of price in any hotel in a major city!! We will be back!!

Dear jandk_95,

Your review has really made my day! Thank you so much for deciding to stay with us even though you had read reviews that caused you some trepidation. I am so glad you have written because your review really does illustrate the more usual experience here at Hotel Grand Chancellor Surfers Paradise.

It was great to read that your experience with our reception team was warm and welcoming. I am also pleased we were able to accommodate an early check-in for you as I know how nice it is to just be able to go straight to the room when travelling.

I am glad you enjoyed the views and the bed too! We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel very soon. Thank you again for your excellent review.

Best regards,

“best location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

After previous reviews we were confused about what to expect and were really pleasantly surprised. We were located on the 34th floor and despite other reviewers having issues, we were not disturbed by any street noise, there were no lift issues and the staff were nothing but helpful - special mention goes out to concierge. Our room was very clean, and everything was in good repair (except the glass sliding door-we did have to jam a theme park brochure in the sliding bit to stop it rattling, but being up so high I guess the wind factor has to play a role). We didn't have our room made up one day and a note under the door said that our hang sign said Do not Disturb. This wasn't the case, but our room wasn't too bad anyway so no biggie. There is shopping (including Woollies) at ground level, the bus stop is across the road and the bar in the foyer does great coffee. All sorts of cusine within walking distance. We would definitely stay again.

Dear Gregg V,

Thank you so much for your review. I was delighted to read that you decided to stay at the hotel even after reading reviews that caused you some confusion. I am even more delighted that we were able to prove those reviews to be unfounded. All of our staff are highly motivated to provide our guests with an excellent, and memorable, experience. I really appreciate you taking the time to write about your pleasant experience with us.

Thank you especially for your very kind comments about our staff, and I will be sure the concierge receives your special mention. I would like to apologise for any miscommunication regarding the do not disturb sign on the door. I would also like to mention for future benefit that at any time during a stay if your room has not been serviced we do have a staff member available to come up and service the rooms upon request. I do hope you didn’t experience too much inconvenience as a result of this miscommunication.

I have also asked our Maintenance team to ensure all the sliding doors on the level you mentioned are shutting completely so as to minimise any wind noise.

Thank you again for your review, and for the constructive feedback which is so vital to help us ensure we are able to offer a continually improving experience for our guests.

Best regards,

Peter Yared

“"Grand" - bah!”

Big pompous name for an ageing property. Pay for internet service - some rooms have it, some don't. They'll put you in a room that's supposed to have it, but doesn't.

Location is quite all right, but front desk not particularly helpful, rooms are only okay. Some have two doors to get through because they're separate yet conjoined rooms.

What a mess!

Dear Worddict,

Thank you for your time in posting feedback on your stay with Hotel Grand Chancellor Surfers Paradise.

I was disheartened to read that you did not find our reception desk to be friendly and helpful. Our reception team is dedicated to providing the very best service so I am sure they will be as surprised as I am that you felt this way. There is internet available in selected rooms, and I do apologise if yours was not working for you during your stay. I do hope this was reported to us so that we could ensure the internet service was re-instated or that you were offered another room with internet available.

It is great that you found the location amenable; and I would urge you to try out one of our newly renovated rooms on your next visit. I am sure you will find them much more to your taste.

Your comment about the conjoined room has given me a great opening to explain this room type. We do have what are called interconnecting rooms available. They have a joint corridor entry then two separate entry doors once you are in the joint corridor. These rooms are great for families with children who want a separate room but to still be close to the kids. They are available on request and the requests are subject to availability.

Thank you again for taking the time to post a review.

“Not what i expected”

I booked a family room here for 2 adults and 2 older teenagers during schoolies week. My teens were here for the schoolies part. We checked in and were told the pool was shut for renovations and we could swim across the road in the Islander hotel pool. It would have been nice to know this when i booked. The pool across the road had food and bottles and whatever else was thrown of the balconies by schoolies in it. I had a family room which consisted of i bedroom with double bed and no TV in it and the maim room which had 2 double beds in it and a very old TV. The bathroom was the smallest bathroom ive ever seen in any hotel/motel and was so badly in need of updating, the whole room needed updating. This hotel was a big dissapointment for my whole family.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been renovated

Dear Allywho,

Greetings from Hotel Grand Chancellor Surfers Paradise.

Thank you for this review of your stay with us. I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the short closure of our swimming pool for renovations. We were glad to have been able to offer an alternative, however I do understand if you felt it was not up to your expectations. The schoolies period in Surfers Paradise is a fairly busy time, and I am sure all the swimming pools in the immediate area were experiencing higher than normal usage by the schoolies kids, bringing with them the evidence of food and drink consumed.

I would also like to let you know that we are currently undergoing renovations to the hotel which have addressed the décor items you have mentioned. The renovated rooms are now available for booking. These new rooms all have new flat screen LCD televisions as well.

Thank you again for the feedback you have provided. We look forward to your next visit to the Gold Coast soon.

Best regards,

“Grand disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

A group of 4 of us recently stayed at this hotel this late January 2012 and we were really not that impressed. Fair enough the location is pretty handy and central in surfers paradise, but a lot more could have been done about the cleanliness of the rooms and front desk service. we stayed just one night before moving to our more preferred hotel location. When I knelt down to pack my bag which was on the outerside of the kitchen, i felt something slightly sharp dig into my knee. I looked around on the floor and saw small pieces of glass...the leftovers of a poor vaccuum job. i got up, and as me and my companions headed downstairs, we noticed blood dripping down my leg. i had been cut in 3 places on my knee. this was alarming as we had all been walking around the room barefoot!!! the front desk manager at the time was helpful in cleaning it up after i waited for her to bring a first aid kit. afterwards, she checked us out pretty quickly and briskly said "sorry" for the poor housekeeping, but didn't try to offer anything complimentary with the apologies of the hotel. That experience aside, the rooms were ordinary and oldish looking anyway (don't believe the pics. we didnt get those) and the pools were under maintenance. So really, if you just want a place to sleep, then sure - go to the Hotel Grand Chancellor (Surfers Paradise). But remember to keep your shoes on at all times!!!

Dear 4vidTrav3ller,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. All our guests’ feedback is very important to us. It really shows us where we are doing well, and what can be improved.

I regards to your comments about the hotel’s décor I would like to mention that we are currently undergoing a renovation to our hotel rooms. The new rooms are now available to book, and are receiving a lot of great feedback. Our guests are really enjoying the new stylish, and modern, look of the hotel.

I was very disappointed to read that you knelt on glass in the room. Each room is cleaned and vacuumed thoroughly by our housekeeping team before inspection by a supervisor. Only after the supervisor has inspected the room is it released for letting. I would like to apologise if there was any glass present after this stringent process. I am sorry for any inconvenience you experienced, and I am glad our Front Desk Manager was able to quickly assist you in any first aid needed.

Thank you again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel soon.
