“Great little inn in paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

This inn is run by a sweet older couple in the middle of paradise. We got a great apartment for a few days which had a full kitchen (with dishes, utensils), bathroom with washer/dryer, living room with a TV (tons of channels), dining room, and bed room. It really felt like we were at home during our trip. We didn't see any bugs or lizards in the room even though we were right in the tropics. The AC units were great in each room, keeping us cool in the hot summer. The couple running the inn were very nice and gave us suggestions on where to eat and what to see. They even did all the work booking us a GBR snorken tour where the shuttle picked us up right outside the inn. Best of all, the room rates were unbelieveably reasonable. The saltwater pool was very clean and empty when we went.

The inn is about a 15 minute walk to the town/beach. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for the best bang for your buck. Look into getting their package deals where you get a night free if you stay X nights. Great deal.

Room Tip: Look at their website for the best deals. They are responsive via email, but might take a few days t...

“great experience”

I went with my fiance and a few friends and we had an awesome experience at the Queenslander. The rooms were really nice and spacious. We especially enjoyed having a kitchen to cook. Although the dryers weren't the best, it was great to be able to wash our clothes at that point in our trip. Additionally, we appreciated having a pool on the premises to hang out with friends and barbecue at. Lastly, Gavin and Julie were really helpful with booking activities with tourist agencies. Overall, this was a great place for us to relax and unpack our suitcases for a few days. I never questioned the security of any of my belongings or my safety when coming back late night.

Thank you for taking the time to place a review on Trip Advisor. Our apartments are self catering so it gives our guests the opportunity to relax and dine in their apartments. If guests have been travelling for a few days it is important for them to catch up on their washing. Our clothes dryers require a sharp hit to the control to start the cycle and we are always pleased to show our guests how they operate if they have been unable to start them.

We were pleased to see you and your friends enjoying our pool and bbq area and exploring The Tropical North.

We have been staying at the Queenslander for a few years now. We always feel a warm welcome when we arrive.
Julie and Gavin are extremely accommodating and will try to facilitate your every need.
The apartments are spacious and extremely well maintained. They are situated close to the beach, marina and the main street all are within walking distance.
The pool is situated in an intimate setting with with bbq facilities near by.
We would highly recommend the Queenslander for a wonderful stress free holiday in Port Douglas.

Room Tip: We have a one bedroom unit but they are all positioned well. It's a quiet street.

We were delighted to have you back to stay with us for your holiday in the sun. It was wonderful to see you looking so relaxed on your departure after what had been an extremely busy 2011 for you both.

Looking forward to your next visit

Kind regards from a very warm Port Douglas - Gavin and Julie

“Good place to stay IF you are non-smoking!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Agree with all the reviews about this being a good place to stay, but only if you are a non-smoker. The owners have established their own draconian rules regarding smoking - you have to do it on the street outside the place.
Whilst we were there we had several converstaions with other guests, who also did not appreciate having to walk down the stairs and out of the property.
It should be noted that there are several other places where you can stay in Port Douglas that do allow smoking!
One other point is that unless you stay 8 nights they do not change the bed linen and since there is no air conditioning in the bedroom, this is a an issue.

Thank you for your Trip Advisor review. We are pleased that you feel The Port Douglas Queenslander was a good place to stay.

We have found that 95% of our bookings request a non smoking apartment. We also had numerous complaints from inhouse guests who felt they could not enjoy their balconies and were forced to close all their windows and doors because of the smell of cigarettes drifitng in. We have now put a non smoking policy in place which has been very much appreciated by our non smoking guests who felt it is in line with other workplace, shops and restaurant restrictions.

As a self catered complex we service our apartments for stays over seven days. We would have provided fresh linen for your apartment at a small extra charge.if you had requested this. You also have a washing machine and dryer in each apartment should you wish to wash the linen during your stay.
