This was my second stay at the Meridian (stayed 5 years ago) and while I still like the place I think if I am lucky enough to revisit Port Douglas again I would try somehwere else as the place is getting a bit worn and I don't think it offers anything extraordinary. Both times I stayed in a one bedroom ground floor with a deck onto the pool and would recommend such a room as it really is the best choice.

Here are all the pros: Location is the biggest one - such a quick walk to town. Laundry facilities - this is a big plus especially when you are travelling around Australia. Size of the room - the one bedroom is large and it does allow you to make your own meals in the kitchen. Access to the pool along with big covered patio. No children under 16 which is a pro if you have no kids and do not want the hassel of kids being in the pool.

Cons: The bed is super hard (my back ached). The furniture is getting worn. There is no oven (just stovetop) and no free internet. Finally, depending on which one bedroom you get the deck to the pool may not allow for 2 lounge chairs to fit comfortably(we had no problem on our first visit but on our most recent visit it was annoying that both myself and my husband could not both get our lounge chairs on the deck). Front desk - professional but not the warmest.

We stayed here for four nights as part of a month long holiday touring around Australia and although the reviews posted on Trip Advisor before we left we all excellent, we were somewhat underwhelmed.

It's not that there's anything particularly wrong with the establishment, it just wasn't what we had expected or had hoped for. Perhaps we were attracted by the photographs on their website? We had a superior studio room and to be totally honest, if this is superior, i would be concerned to have had anything less that this room. It was somewhat basic, lacking any particular features and just seemed a bit weary.

The rooms aren't cleaned at any point during your stay which we hadn't realised and we had to sort out emptying our own bins etc. which for some would be a given in apartment stays but for the price we paid, this was a little disappointing.

The staff were friendly but nothing special - perhaps one could describe the manager as a little eccentric?! They were helpful in arranging an airport pickup and when our flight was very late arriving and late night access was sorted too.

The pool was fine, very warm and clean too. The location is excellent, literally a few steps to the main street and 2 mins to 4 mile beach.

Overall, if we were to return to Port Douglas which is a lovely part of the world, we'd look to stay elsewhere.

The Meridian is located in the heart of Port Douglas and it is a short walk to all of the major attractions in to, including the beach. John the Manager went out of his way to ensure our stay was perfect. Nothing was to much trouble. The rooms were big and had great fittings and furniture. A perfect location to take in all Port Douglas has to offer. Cannot wait for our next visit to the Meridian.

Great place to enjoy your adventure at the Great Barrier Reef. Walking distance into the quaint town of Port Douglas. Rooms are large and have everything you need!! So helpful and nothing is a problem at the Meridian Port Douglas. Not a large hotel, more like an apartment which is so much better.
