“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

David and Joyce were extremely helpful in helping me to select day trips to the rain forest and snorkeling. I was late arriving to Port Douglas from Cairns, but Joyce was waiting for me, helped me with my luggage to my room, and told me where to go for a late night meal.

The room was very clean and tastefully decorated and the king-size bed was very comfortable. The kitchenette was equipped with dishes, pots & pans, microwave, electric teakettle, toaster, refrigerator, stove, and wine glasses--everything you could possibly need to fix a quick and simple meal.

Port Douglas Retreat is situated off the main road, but shopping, restaurants, and the beach are all within a five-minute walk of the Retreat. If you get too hot from shopping, I highly recommend coming back to the Retreat and going for a refreshing swim in the pool. You can also purchase seafood [or other meat] at the local grocery store and prepare it poolside on the "barbie" at the Retreat.

Thank you David and Joyce for making my stay in Port Douglas wonderful. I hope to visit again very soon.

“Clean apartment with kitchen, nice pool and BBQ area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2010

This place was the perfect choice for our needs: instead of staying in a luxury hotel, we'd rather stay where we can feel like home, waking up late and preparing our own food. It's well located (walking distance from the beach, harbour and Macrossan street, where most of the shops and restaurants are) and our apartment was nice, clean, with a well-equipped kitchen and a veranda. The owners were helpful, having provided us with a map and tips on the city. On the 1st day the shower wasn't working well and we had it fixed within the same day. The pool area is beautiful and relaxing, with a BBQ facility.

“perfect location for port douglas holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

Having read many previous reviews, I was not dissapointed by what I found. It's a great location in the town, lovely pool, BBQ area perfect for those nights you dont want to eat out and the rooms are great. Best of all were David and Joyce's recommendations and advice. They gave excellent suggestions on what to do and what to miss! Thanks to them for a wonderful week,

“Great location and value for money.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

This is the ideal place to stay for those who prefer small and friendly hotels. We were welcomed by David on arrival and he and his wife gave us excellent advice both on arrival and throughout our stay regarding good places to eat (the ‘Tin Shed’ is a must) and trips to suit our requirements. The pool area is lovely and we had a king size room overlooking the pool which we would recommend. The room was furnished simply but not dated: spacious, very well maintained and the standard of cleanliness throughout the complex was excellent. The kitchen, though limited regarding work space, was well equipped and ample for cooking breakfast and light lunches and the barbecue area was ideal for evening meals and socializing with other guests. As Port Douglas is quite expensive to eat out, having an apartment for less than the price of the average hotel room is a real money saver. The location of the hotel is superb, equi-distant between the town, four mile beach and the harbour- less than 5 mins. flat walking in each direction. For those on a budget who still hope to get a good location and standard of accommodation this is unbeatable.
