“A wonderful place to stay!”

We stayed at Mai Tai for two nights and couldn't have had a better experience! The location of the resort was beautiful and made for a great experience. Andre and Anthony were most helpful during our stay, they were excellent hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay even more enjoyable than we could have imagined. They are a charming friendly couple. We highly suggest Mai Tai for a relaxing getaway! My partner and I certainly preferred the privacy and seclusion that Mai Tai afforded us. A great place to stay!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.

“An Enlightening Stay”

My goodness.... What can I say about Mai Tai that hasn't already been said? In short, the place (and the owners) are fabulous!

Of course every review preceeding mine articulates in exquisite detail how wonderful Mai Tai is, but allow me to add my two cents....

Firstly, Andre and Anthony give a new definition to 'personalised service'. Whilst staying at Mai Tai no request is too big or too small and is guaranteed to be met with a smile... or a cheeky comment from Anthony ;-) Staying at any large resort or hotel chain you're just another face and if anyone remembers your name its nothing short of a miracle. Not at Mai Tai! Andre and Anthony live on site and are at their guests disposal day or night in a manner that is more than obliging. Unlike many places in tourist towns like Port Douglas, you can tell they really care about their customers.

The resort itself is nothing short of a private oasis- nestled up the mountain with breathtaking views of sugr cane fields, rainforest, rolling hills (and of course the ocean) to greet you every morning and rooms that give you the feeling of having the place all to yourself. The resort was full whilst we stayed there (it caters for 5 couples at a time), but we never saw another soul which made it seem as though it was our own private paradise. Lying by the pool on the day bed, reading a book and enjoying the view had to be one of the most memorable (and relaxing) moments of our stay at this wonderful resort.

Although some people may prefer to stay closer to town (Mai Tai is a 10-15 minute drive to Port Douglas centre) my partner and I certainly preferred the privacy and seclusion that Mai Tai afforded us.

In short, if you want a relaxing, dream-like holiday with personalised service (and people that remember your name!) stay at Mai Tai.... you couldn't possibly regret it.

Room Tip: If possible book the villa or a deluxe room. The deluxe rooms have an outdoor shower and give you th...

“Great secluded location ideal for a romantic break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We are regulars to Port Douglas having stayed at Sea Temple and Bale on previous visits. On a prior visit we called into Mai Tai and were impressed by the location and decided to give it a go when next holidaying in the area.

We booked online and managed to secure the Executive Villa at the discounted rate of $450 per night.

The Executive Villa is perched at the back of the property and is very private and secluded from the other guest rooms. The Villa is self contained and has only recently been completed. It has been furnished to a high standard with all the appliances you would expect ie. full size fridge/freezer with ice maker, dishwasher, full size oven and convection hot plates, washing machine etc.

On the way to Mai Tai we grabbed some groceries and fruit etc from the supermarket that made us pretty well self sufficient for our stay. I actually enjoyed the freedom of having breakfast when you like. There is no daily room service and we were well aware of this when we booked. This wasn't a problem as the Villa isn't hard to keep clean.

Anthony and Andre are extremely obliging hosts who will go out of there way to make your stay enjoyable.

The Bed was extremely comfortable and I had the best sleep I’ve had for ages. Although the bedroom and living area have air-conditioning we had no need to turn these on during our stay. The design of the Villa is such that a cooling breeze flows from the rear of the building to the front.

Being set in the bush, it was great to wake in the morning to the sounds of the many birds that are resident in the area.

Whilst Mai Tai is Apx. 20 mins from the Port Douglas township this wasn’t a problem and in many ways an advantage. Mossman is only a short drive away and boasts many shops and a number of good restaurants.

The plunge pool is refreshing and we used it several times, although in hindsight when the villa was built, perhaps this could have been located in a spot where it benefited from some sun.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway in a great setting, then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: The Exec Villa is great, but make sure you keep the insect screens shut during the evening as there...

“Tropical heaven”

If Buddha himself needed a holiday this is where he would stay! It is absolutely wonderful and the two guys who own it Anthony and Andree are meticulous in presenting this tropical heaven!

Their attention to detail is brilliant and the glorious timber furnishings and ornaments and statues placed around this getaway is just stunning!

But don't listen to me, go and stay for yourself!

Room Tip: All rooms are superb, but if like me you're afraid of the sun ask for one of the back apartments...

“Simply amazing!”

My wife and I just completed a 4-night stay at Mai Tai as the beginning leg to a two week holiday in Australia and NZ. Without a doubt this was the best bed & breakfast experience we have ever had. From the moment we arrived Andre and Anthony made us feel right at home - only this home was paradise tucked away in a mountain just a short drive away from the centre of Port Douglas. Andre and Anthony were most helpful during our stay by coordinating both the Poseidon reef tour and Daintree rainforest tour for us (two must do's), recommending restaurants for dinner and making sure we had everything we needed to have a great time. This included the little things like providing us towels for us to take on our tours and to the beach and letting us select among dozens of DVDs of theirs for some late night movie watching in our room. We stayed in the Poppy room which was decorated with great style and had a most comfortable king size bed. If you're a honeymooner be sure to consider their newly finished honeymoon suite - simply breathtaking. Another highlight of this resort was the yummy breakfast Andre layed out for us each morning and which we ate while overlooking the mountains surrounding us. Thanks Andre and Anthony for what was truly an awesome experience.
