We stayed at Koala Courts for two nights on our way back to NZ. We had four adults and two teenage children. They were really spacious and clean tidy apartments and well equipped. The owners were really great people who were really helpful. They recommended great places to shop and the Cock & Bull where they suggested we dine what amazing meals they were so huuuge with only one member of the group finishing their whole meal. The also took my in laws out to the airport for us.
I would recommend Koala Courts to anybody. Good value for money!

We (two adults and two kids, age 19, 22 yrs) stayed at the Koala court before and after a Barrier Reef Sailing trip. Booked a 2 bed apartment both times and the rooms were very comfortable - clean, nice beds, roomy and well-appointed kitchen, and working laundry in the room. The owners were absolutely great and very friendly. Picked us up from the airport, quickly found toaster and other small kitchen appliances that were missing in the room, and gave us the best tips on where to eat around town. The Cock and Bull, just down the street, is an excellent deal with huge, tasty portions. The only (slight) negative is the location - it's is a bit of a walk to the CDB, but easily done in 15 -20 minutes, even in the sun and summer heat and showers. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for four days on during our trip to Australia at the end of October 2007. The apartments themselves are nothing to go wild over, though the are clean and spacious, but the managers and owners are VERY helpful. All you have to go if you have a question is go down to the office and they can help you out with anything..they have lots of suggestions if you are not sure of the best place to eat, what to do, etc. The location is a little ways away from the esplanade, but if you have a car, it only takes about five minutes, plus the airport is about ten minutes away. We drove up to Port Douglas and Kuranda and it was an easy drive from there.
They have a saltwater pool, which is kind of small but nice, wasn't usually a lot of people using it, either.
For friends or families on a budget, I would recommend this place, but definitely get a car, which is pretty cheap to rent in Cairns.

We booked Koala Court apartments over the wotif site to stay for a couple of nights in cairns on our way to dunk island. The booking went through without a hitch (full credit to wotif for this to) I wanted to make sure that the 'comment' I had made on the booking regarding late arrival had been received by Koala Court so I contacted them directly via email after my booking had been confirmed.
They were so lovely to deal with and made arrangements for me to get our keys and instructions late at night upon arrival. They also made sure I had milk for my cup of tea when I got there. They had cooled the room and everything was tidy and roomy.
This is the first apartment we have stayed in and I highly recommend this to other families particularly those with young children. We had booked a standard 2 bdrm apartment which had storage galore, a roomy kitchen so we were'nt tripping over each other, and ample instructions on how to get to local food and shopping outlets.
It is about a 15 min flat walk to the local shopping centre. there were local bus services but we were quite happy with the little bit of exercise.
The owners were really friendly and helpful, so were the other guests staying there.
We will definately be going back to Cairns at some stage and will be staying at the Koala Court apartments for sure.
Just remember that it isn't a 5 star accommodation, and that as it is an apartment, it isn't serviced daily, nor are you supplied with shampoos etc. after the first day. ( I didn't realise )
Only complaint if any would be the noise of the planes going into the airport but this is no fault of Koala Court as apparently (after speaking to locals) the flight plan had recently been changed to almost directly over the main CBD. A\nywhere in the area will hear the planes. Do be honest, after the first day, we didn't hear them anymore, and they didn't fly at night from what I could tell.
