I stayed here on a trip in May 2009 and it was my first time staying at a hostel. Of what I remember most is that it was conveniently located less than a block or two from the heart of the city. The staff were pleasant enough and the beds were okay. It's a hostel, so you can't expect the whole Four Seasons Hotel experience. All and all, if you're looking for someplace on the cheap to stay that is reliable, safe and conveniently located, give this place a try.

My boyfriend and I stayed in an 8 share dorm here back in July for 1 week, and we had such a good time. The rooms were big with ensuites and they were cleaned every day. The kitchen was big so there was never any issues using the facilities and they were always clean. You get free entry to the club and use of the pool. If you are backpacking and you are in Cairns you have to stay in Gilligans its probably the best thing in Cairns, I would definatly reccomend it, the only downer is the receptionists are miserable, but each to there own : )

Seeing as we found this hostel under the Bars and Clubs section of our travel guide we didn't expect much more than meeting people and getting wasted, but were surprised on the quality of the hostel, nice rooms good setup. Constant drinks offers and different themed nights going on. Loads of friendly people but if you're looking to hook up no guests without keycards so best go back to their place unless you have a spare

A huge complex with lots of well tended rooms in pristine condition. A good tour and travel agency in the lobby. Also a great bar- and pool area. Mostly frequented by young people with their minds set on partying. Bring earplugs if you need a good nights sleep.
