Motel style hostle. Very helpful staff, large clean kitchen & a very clean hostle. Good location with everything in walking distance, shopping centre opposite the hostle, with super market. The only issue was that we were next to the bathroom and at night you could hear the handryers & the odd late shower. Would stay here again.

I needed to get away for a break from the Christchurch Earthquakes & wanted somewhere warm & relaxing. So I picked Cairns. There are several hostels in Cairns & the YHA is one of the best.

Great location at the edge of the Cairns CBD which is not that big. Its only a short walk to the waterfront. There is a mall over the road which is also where the Train station is. I flew to Cairns & its a short shuttle ride to the Hostel.

It was still warm in May which was nice but it must get hot in the summer. The rooms are clean & tidy with lots of space & lockers in the rooms. Only problem was there was only 1 power point for a 6 bed dorm.

The kitchen & dining area are a good size & kept nice & clean. There is a pool which was a bit cold for me this time of year. For some reason the spa pool was also cold.

Staff are friendly & helpful & can help plan trips & adventures in the area.

If you are travelling and want a good hostel and a good night sleep, than do not go tho YHA cairns. We had a terrible night. All the rooms are around the smoking / outside area. We had the room in front of the hot tob.... you can guess what noise that made.Drunk people everywhere, music and above all the airconditioning only knew 1 programme... very, very cold (!) We could not adust the temperature so you went from 30 outside to about 17 degrees inside. We have stayed at many YHA hostels but we really did not like this one.

I must say, that I am not very fond of Cairns. Too big, too many tourists, nothing to see. I've stayed at the YHA for the first time. It's a motel-style YHA, with a green courtyard and the rooms surrounding it on two storeys. As everything happens in the courtyard and the rooms are not sound-proof, it can get very loud: People partying until early morning and people getting up early afterward to go on one of the numerous tours. Additionally the rooms have windows one can't close and no mosquito nets - we didn't like that so much. The kitchen is okay, a bit small for all those travellers who want to cook. There is a pool (nice) and an internet corner (limited space). We most probably will not return there.
