What can we say......Fantastic!
We had a 2 bedroom apartment, it was spacious, clean, well set out and very comfortable (a real home from home)
All the staff that we came into contact with were helpful, freindly and totally proffesional.
The 4 pools and gym were great, greatly enjoyed by us as well as our 14 year old daughter and 17 year old son.
The shuttle bus was great for getting into Cairns and both the drivers we came in contact with were exemplary.
The only negative was the TV signal.
We only spent 4 nights here but really wish it had been longer and can't wait to visit again, and leave cold, windy and damp England behind.
Because it was so good here it made the apartment in Syndey pale in to insignificance.

“Great value family holiday location”

Beautiful tropical gardens and four pools to choose from. We had a lovely 2 bedroom apartment - very spacious, lots of room so that we weren't on top of each other (2 teenage boys with us) when we were in the apartment. Apartment has a full kitchen, so after an initial shopping exercise for food we were pretty much set up for a two week stay. Yes, the resort is a little out of town (1.5km) - but we found this an attraction rather than a hindrance. The resort is very secure - it is gated, plus a key is required to get into each apartment block and again into the individual apartments, so this was great peace of mind for us in letting the kids wander on their own. The resort offers an hourly shuttle bus service into town for a minimal charge, and we found the public bus system a very easy & cheap way to get around too. Most tours offered hotel pickups so this was no problem either. Overall a great place to get away from it all and relax for a while.

“Lakes Resort over Christmas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We stayed here as part of a family visit and had two apartments. One serviced daily and one not. On the whole we had a nice time but this resort is let down by the reception staff, they have some very good ones who are efficient and helpful and a couple of clearly untrained younger staff who dont know much and seem to not care. The standard of service is determined by the staff member you get. Our room was serviced once and the work was above expectations and the women cleaning was very efficient and thorough. Our family members were serviced daily for which they paid a premium, only to find out after arriving that the full service was not available over a couple of the public holidays, even though they paid for it. Their service was by some othere staff member than ours, and was sloppy, half done, and one day the maid left a half eaten ice block on a bedside table, yes its hot but really....

The resort is lovely, but over Christmas it was very full and the pools were taken over by younger people partying and taking drinks in bottles into the water, playing cricket in the water, playing very very loud music and generally making it impossible for other people to enjoy. After a couple of days the pools were cleaned and were at least usable but to enjoy this resort you need to avoid the peak school holiday time. Younger children were fine but the late teens / early twenty year olds who took over and partied by the pool and in the pool all day made it tough on older people and families with young children. It seems once someone has a key to the place they can invite all their friends who turn up with eskies full of booze and take over. Having said that the staff did their best to keep the place clean and maintain it but over the public holidays it was clearly a skeleton staff and they had no control over the partying. We stayed here some years ago and loved it which is why we chose to come back for Christmas. I would stay again but pick a less busy time. But do your homework as the lack of experienced staff means you need to ask the right questions, they wont offer any help unless pushed. There are one or two good ones but its the luck of the draw. Nice place but it needs some staff training and better control of the pools in busy times.

Room Tip: we had the deluxe two bedroom which looked over the pool, the standard had a street view. If you go...

“Excellent Staff and clean apartment”

Only stayed a couple of nights, but after arriving after a 25 hour journey from London, we were welcomed by the friendly staff at the front desk.
My nieces buggy never arrived, having not been transferred from Singapore, but the concierge quickly found a spare one until ours arrived!
The apartment we we in was spacious and very clean.
Excellent nights sleep after a long journey.
Well worth the money and enjoyed our stay throughout. Would definitely recommend.

“Spacious, clean but a bit tired and too far out of town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

The resort is quite nice with 3 storey apartment blocks surrounding a series of landscaped pools. The rooms are large and have a pleasant outdoor dining space. Because the rooms are large and are sparsely furnished it doesn't have that luxury look. Our apartment did not have a telephone and it was almost impossible to get this across to the front desk staff.
"Our apartment doesn't have a phone"
"Yes it does"
"No it doesn't"
"Yes, every apartment has a phone"

Other than that the staff were really helpful. The apartment also had a clothes washing machine which came in handy. No towels for the pools though. The bistro was "interesting" - can't recommend eating there.

I wouldn't stay here again as I prefer Port Douglas over Cairns and The Lakes is too far out of town - nice walk in for exercise but ....

Room Tip: If not with kids ask for an apartment away from families as they were noisy.
