“Check out on Check In please.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2011

Booked accommdation for 6 nights over the Internet for 4nights of leisure followed by 2 nights for work. 4 star hotel was not even on the scale, -3 Room, utensils were filthy eg hair in glass, frying pan grime still on it tape on the walls etc & outdoor furniture was broken and this room was an upgrade on checking in, The manager was the final straw, when he came to check it out my complaint. In a summerised version the manager was rudely said 'not sure what you are use to but this is standard cleaning' followed by you wouldn't get refund based on that, if its that bad we can transfer you in another room tomorrow'. That night we decided we would leave in the morning regardless if we couldn't get a refund, we were determine to enjoy the rest of our holiday.
I spent the night taking pictures, surfing the net, writing complaints to the Hotel Chain and the booking agency. I did not want to sleep in the room but my partner insisted we get some sleep (2hrs) and leave early in the morning. Well on going into the room I looked in the cupboard to take more photos, the mopbucket was in the cupboard and in their was a pair of men's underpants.. ooh hell know I'm not even going to get into the sheets of this bed. 7am we checked out , the receptionist was very helpful after I told her our nights drama and even rang another hotel. We checked it out and although it was to 'our standard' we decided not to stay with the Hotel Chain, until we heard back from them. We sat at an internet cafe looking for accommodation, I rang the booking agency and told them what happened 'Quickbeds' was very helpful and said they would discuss it with Breakfree about a refund. 5-star for Breakfree Receptionist' Customer Service. Thank you to Quickbeds for getting a refund for the remaining 5 nights. As for the Hotel Chain when we finally heard from them, they had passed on our email to the Breakfree Manager to sort out (after the complaint was about him as well). But this is no reflection on all Breakfree hotels as we have had some good experience with Breakfree hotels prior to this experience.

“Too Dirty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

it might be in a great location , but the rooms are dirty and dusty not clean at all and don't go in the bathroom if mould offends you because it was riddled with it , mirrors not cleaned , floors not mopped , ants everywhere. simply "Just Don't Do It".

“Sub-standard accomodation for the price”

Stayed in these apartments with my husband for 3 nights for new years. Asked for an ocean view apartment on the highest floor possible to watch new years fireworks and was shoved at the side on level 5. Was told by reception they were fully booked out which was a blatant lie as the car park was obviously very empty and the complex very quiet. Not a sole in the pool on new years?? In the middle of school holidays?? Come on. We had to leave the apartment and walk to the fireworks. We arrived early and expected to wait to check-in, thats ok, however they sent us out in 35 degree heat and didnt phone us, as promised, when the room was ready. When we finally ventured back to the resort, hot and almost heat stroked we entered our room only to find no cold water or ice awaiting us on our arrival. The room was disgusting. They just cleaned it? They just changed the towels and folded the toilet paper more like it. The blinds had dust on them so thick, it had obviously not been touched in years. I went home sick as I suffer from hay fever and had so much dust in my airways I couldnt breathe. The bathroom was covered in mildew and mould, the toilet looked like it hadnt been cleaned in weeks, with faeces around the rim. My feet were black, wouldnt know the last time this place had ever seen a mop. Ants everywhere. There was the same rubbish left in the common hallway for the whole 3 days we were there. We paid more than our weekly rent to stay here for 3 days and am very disappointed at the service and cleanliness of this place. The staff are not friendly at all, and have a bad work ethic. Put a real damper on the trip. Would reccomemed paying a little more money to stay else where, especially if your an allergy or asthma sufferer. No undercover parking for guests. Park your car in the 35 degree heat oustide reception.

“Great Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

Thanks Megan, Ruth and Malcolm for the great customer service, the best we encountered on our holiday and enough to make us return again for the last four days of the holiday. The last room near the pool was great - garden room. A good location, easy access to food, the esplanade and not too far to walk to shops, etc at your own pace. Rooms were clean, comfortable and economical. If your looking for 5 star book one elsewhere, if your looking for the above without all the luxuries and the wealth of "real people on staff" then this will suit your needs! Note other comments on insects, its the tropics, its normal. We didn't have any problems drying clothes on the airer outside, weather would dictate on this with the changing seasons.

“It's A Mixed Bag”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

A one bedroom apartment right on the waterfront with sea views. Sounded great. We wanted the one bedroom because I get up early and my wife likes to sleep in a bit. So I could leave her in bed and make a cuppa and turn on the lights and TV without risk of waking her up.

Not so. The bedroom is in an alcove just inside the entry door. It can be separated from the corridor leading past the bathroom and to the open plan kitchen/lounge with a bi-fold louvre door which is so close to the bottom of the bed, there is no way to get past it without a lot of noise. So although you can have visual privacy, acoustically it's useless at stopping noise from the living area getting through to the sleeping area.

The bed in Apartment 304 was old fashioned, hard and lacked a valence. My wife was NOT impressed. The bedside tables had dust accumulations in the corners that must have taken years to collect. Walls had lots of scuff marks and even a hole. There were micro-ants in the kitchen and one of the light fittings was a bare miniature fluorescent lamp. The TV was an old fashioned cathode ray type, probably 21 inch. The air conditioning was noisy and either on or off - i.e. no fan speed control - ear plugs definitely required when trying to sleep. The front loader washing machine was good, but with no dryer, we couldn't always guarantee overnight drying of the washing on the clothes horse out on the small deck area. Generally most of the chattels looked more than 10 years old and in need of updating.

And it's located next door to a backpacker's accommodation which our apartment overlooked - it got a bit noisy in their back courtyard on a few nights. But this was only obvious with the door to the deck open.

On the upside - very convenient location close to lots of restaurants and shops. Reception staff, especially Megan very friendly and helpful. Reasonable although quite small pool. Good security.

In summary - a mixed bag - you might have better luck in another apartment - they are individually owned and might have different levels of finish, even though the basic layout is likely to be similar.
