We stayed at Cairns Plaza Hotel for 2 nights.
First impressions aren't great as the reception area has a hospital feel about it.
The apartment was dated but reasonably roomy. A small kitchenette with bar fridge and microwave was handy. The bedroom was a decent size and bed was comfy. Both the bedroom and living room opened on to a fairly roomy balcony facing the ocean. The sofa was really uncomfortable but who's going to sit around on the sofa on holidays anyway? It was all quite clean. The aircon was fine but other than standing right in front of it the rooms were pretty hot - a fan would've been great.
The pool is nice and a swim was a relief from the Cairns humidity..
The staff we saw at reception all seemed very friendly and check in/out was quick.
Overall it probably could do with an update/refresh but at $99/night for a decent sized suite with ocean facing balcony close to the shops - you really can't complain.
