We booked to stay with the Coral Tree Inn through QLD Rail on a reef and rainforest package. Nice quaint hotel. The girl on reception who checked us in was very welcoming and lovely - Eliza I believe her name was. She was very patient with us as we were very tired after the long train trip. She advised us of all the details we needed to know for our stay and she also suggested a beautiful restaurant for us to eat in as the hotels was closed. A very welcoming start to our stay with coral tree inn. The next day was our reef trip so we had our breakfast early - breakfast was included as full buffet however the Asian lady in the kitchen had no idea how to cook bacon and eggs, we asked for fried eggs and she just pointed to the scrambled eggs in the hot box (I was not impressed with these as they were all watery and looked burnt) so we enjoyed the cereal and toast for brekkie. Once we were back from the reef trip we came in to find our room had not been serviced. Not very impressed but we were very tired that we didn’t bother to mention it. As it was a Monday the restaurant was once again closed so Eliza once again informed us of another place to eat that was just walking distance. The next day thank goodness there was an Australian chef in the kitchen and breakfast was delightful, he catered to us meeting out breakfast requests very nice young man. On our last day of our stay (we extended our tour by 1 day so we could relax after our busy 2 days of tours) we noticed that the hotel was very Asian based, i tired to locate a housekeeper to get us more milk and none could be found, I went into reception and was greeted by a Chinese man behind the desk who could barely speak English and I didn’t understand much of what he said. He called housekeeping to reception for me, this was also an Asian girl who once again hardly spoke English and was a little rude (not even in a uniform no wonder I could not locate them i just assumed they were guests) I don’t mean to be rude but having staff that don’t speak English is not very helpful. Check out time took a little while as it was with the young Chinese man who appeared to get rather flustered - lucky we were leaving early in case of any delays. We were hoping Eliza was on to check us out as we wanted to thank her and wish her a happy birthday (hope you had a good day my dear) so please pass on our thanks as she was very helpful indeed.
Asides from the staff with little English abilities and the lack of attention to detail by housekeeping the stay was pleasant enough.
