“nice room - bad customer service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Rather than endure 7hrs between the Cairns domestic & international hotels before a 1am international flight, I decided to indulge in a room at the Cairns Acacia Court Hotel given its close proximity to the airports. Following a $20 taxi fare from the airport (no transfers are offered) I arrived at the accommodation and was instantly disappointed with the lack of service on check in (and check out). Upon arriving to my room, I was relieved to find a comfortable haven: a small bar fridge, large wardrobe, luggage table, unit with large TV, small desk & chair, QS bed & bedside tables. A large glass sliding door opens into a balcony providing a beautiful view of the hills and waterway. The TV offers a large range of channels including movies. A number of Australian 3 point power points are available. An air conditioner provides relief. Additional pillows are stored in the wardrobe.

The bathroom was large, with shower/bath, toilet & basin with long bench. Two large bath towels, bath mat, hand towel & two face washers are supplied. Shampoo/conditioner & soaps are provided. Water pressure & temperature are good. I had full mobile phone coverage and used internet associated with this. There was no hotel guide so I am unsure if wifi is offered or a laundry service. I can highly recommend the room service – totally delicious & well priced. Opposite the reception in the lobby was a bar/restaurant with an outdoor swimming pool to the side. From memory, there was an ATM in the lobby also.

Great hotel, stunning views but the poor staff service really let the place down. I would stay there again, however would not expect any assistance whatsoever from staff.

“Great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Great place to stay. We stay here whenever we come to Cairns. Whilst it is a little way from the city centre it is a comfortable place to stay which ticks all the boxes for us. One request however- hotel guests will struggle to get a park in the hotel car park after about 6pm when the restaurant opens and it can mean a long walk from you car from the street outside to the reception- especially when you have toddlers. Suggest that they make car park for hotel guests ONLY! Otherwise a great place

“Decent value, if you don't mind a walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Not everyone likes to stay in the thick of it. It can be nice to be away from the noise and parade of backpackers and tourists.

Then again, a ten to fifteen minute walk in tropical heat and weather may not be for everyone.

The Acacia Court is on the waterfront - and if you have a water view room, the view of the sun rising over the habour can be both inspiring and breathtaking.

If you have a hinterland view - you may not have won the jackpot, but looking up to the imposing mountains isn't all that bad.

The rooms are a bit dated - but everything works and is clean.

The car parking thing can be tricky - there aren't heaps of car parks, and the best entry is not from the Esplanade if you're driving.

A perfectly decent hotel with restaurant and bar, though you'll probably be tempted to do your drinking and take your meals elsewhere, and much, much, much, better value than many of the hotels on the strip.

“High Humidity & No Thongs Please”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

We stayed here for 2 nights. Our room was quiet and had a balcony with sea view. It was clean and quite spacious. However, it was a shock to see a sign (one of many) on the restaurant door advising that thongs were not permitted. It just took a minute before I equated flip flops with thongs! There is a bottle shop in the hotel lobby. There are long queues to eat. The food (breakfast as well as dinner) is served buffet-style and was pentiful and good. It's also cheap, which is why there are always queues. All in all, a bit rough and ready but clean. A bit out of the town centre and not trendy in any way, but fabulous sea views (although it was stormy and wet during our visit).

Room Tip: Sea views are the best option.

“I'm sure you could find better in Cairns”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

The good points:
1. The rooms are always clean
2. Some of the staff are friendly
3. Some of the rooms have an ocean view, and this is one of the closest hotels to the Cairns airport
4. At the time I stayed there, this was a Best Western Hotel and they had a decent travel magazine (advertising their hotels in other locations) which had some good articles about Australia and New Zealand travel destinations
5. The rooms have good quality curtains, so if you close them properly, the light doesn't come in in the morning
6. There is a lot of bench space in the bathroom.

The not so good points:
1. This hotel is located approximately 2km from the centre of town, and, as a single female, I walked back to the hotel after dinner a couple of times, and then was told (by a colleague) that this isn't such a good idea in this area
2. The ocean view becomes a 'mud flat view' at low tide
3. I ate at the restaurant one night, and it took the waitress over 30 minutes to bring me a glass of water. The buffet dinner was some of the worst food I have ever eaten.
4. Some of the staff did not seem excited about being there!
5. The decor in the bedroom area was outdated to the point where I almost found it depressing staying here.
