We lucked onto this hotel back in 2001, I believe we were told that it had been recently refurbished. We ended up in a ground floor room with a small kitchenette and a loungeroom that had sliding doors to divide off the bedroom and a door to a patio. The bedroom had a queen/king size bed and a jacuzzi tub. This is not what we were looking for or had requested but was quite surprised and pleased with what we got. We were disappointed that we hadn't found it earlier and had spent our other nights in Cairns at this hotel.
At the end of Dec 2005 we had another overnight trip planned to Cairns and we knew exactly where we were going to stay. By this time, the hotel had changed names, slightly. I hadn't reserved the room ahead of time so was kind of nervous that they may not have any rooms at this time of the year. Lucky for us, they were not booked out.
We did not request a spa room, figuring we were only there for one night, so we settled on a standard hotel room with a double/queen bed and a single bed and a balcony, the cost was $88/night.
Again, we were not disappointed. Staff was friendly and the rooms clean. My husband and 5yr old daughter spent time in the pool which they enjoyed.
You have to drive to get to Cairns Central, the Night Markets and the touristy part of the city but I would recommend this hotel to others looking for a nice hotel on a budget.
