“Worth Visiting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2010

The service was friendly. The manager, Noel, carried my case up the stairs when I arrived and down again when I checked out. This seems to be a rarity in other places.

The deal includes breakfast, but it is self serve and very basic fare. I don't have a problem with this, but it is worth knowing that if you expect more.

The hotel is very clean and quiet. I put high value on both of those things. As observed by others, you need to ask if you want towels etc changed before a week is up. I was asked every day if there was anything that I needed so that I was comfortable.

It is time that Edward Lodge traded in the old TV sets. The remote only operated when we were standing close to the set.

I like New Farm very much. It's close to the City Centre and you can reach most things by City Cat.

There is free internet, but it disappeared for 24 hours. I hope this was a one off.

“A good place to explore Brisbane”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2010

We stayed at the Edward Lodge for three nights. The house is located in a very nice area. It is close to the City Cat stop so we could get to Brisbane CBD very easily. Shops and restaurants are also within 5 minutes walking distance.

The house itself is nicely decorated. We had a very spacious room on the ground level which had its own fridge, microwave and water boiler. Despite this excellent equipment the room was not all clean. There was quite some dust and the dishes were a bit dirty, too. The bathroom, however, was clean.

The king size bed was very comfortable. Our sleep was only disturbed by the noises on the corridor to the common area especially in the morning.

The hosts did not serve breakfast but there were toast, butter and jam, fruit salad and cereals, as well as coffee and tea making facilities in the kitchen for everybody to help themselves. We did not make use of this opportunity because neither the kitchen nor the fridge seemed to be particularly clean. Given the price we didn't expect breakfast at all, so we weren't really disappointed.

Overall, we do recommend the Edward Lodge as a good alternative to the rather expensive hotels to explore Brisbane.

“good location.. needs some TLC and a clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2010

i recently stayed for 4 nights in Nov 10', the property is in an excellent location for catching the city cat into the CBD and/or by car, for accessing the airport and city/south Brisbane locations. I arrived late at night and my key was waiting for me as expected which was great. the photos of the beautiful room only relate to room one, i had an upstairs room which, although spacious in size, needed some new carpets and a good lick of paint, not quite what i was expecting at all. The sheets were clean and good facilities in the room (microwave, fridge, tv) but not the cleanest. The help yourself from the galley kitchen (kitchen being an oversight) was not up to much, cereal, a round of toast and some tea, the fridge was filthy and the kitchen also not up to standard. The yard could do with a decent sweep and by the look of it, the BBQ also needed a spruce up. if you want basic accommodation in a good area and your happy to accept more hostel than B&B style, then this is ok. The room is not serviced during your stay at all, no fresh towels or beds made.

“Edward Lodge never fails to please, it's always a delight to stay.”

My partner and I have stayed in Edward Lodge many times over the last couple of years. The Lodge's hosts, Robyn and Noel, are always welcoming, friendly, warm and helpful. Charming rooms, superb quiet, clean location that allows you to feel part of a community rather than a 'fly-through', interesting local riverside area, great restaurants, cinema a 5-minute drive away, with public transport by both City Cat ferry and bus into main city areas. Highly recommended!!

“Excellent residential location with easy access to everything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2009

I greatly enjoyed the location of the lodge. It's in a residential neighborhood that's a short walk from restaurants (including Indian and Thai), a full grocery store, gourmet food store, post office, chemist, and newsagent. Frequent buses to the CBD stop nearby, and New Farm Park is one block away, with clear views of fruit bats at dusk. It's the perfect place for a peaceful rest from sterile hotels, and it was the only place I stayed in 6 Australian cities that actually delivered the free internet service it promised. (Australia is dismal that way; if you're traveling for business, get a 3G USB modem and prepaid SIM because almost none of the wireless will work or be fast enough.)

Minuses: the windows are old, opening outward, and so have no screens. TV noise carries easily in the little courtyard.
