“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Excellent location — had a weekend in Brisbane city to celebrate my birthday, so the Citigate was close to bars and the casino, as well as nearby to the central shopping district. Had an excellent meal at the Citigate's Bistro Allure. However, the room we stayed in smelled weird and didn't seem to be impeccably maintained and were quite old. Having said that, the bed was comfortable and slept fine. The service on checkout from the Reservations Manager was poor, and was quite rude with regards to a mixup with our late checkout.

“Extremely Poor Customer Service - Don't stay here”

I'll start by saying that at the end of the day, we made an error in not checking our wotif booking dates carefully so I take full responsibility....
We booked our accom at Citigate on Wotif at 10:35pm Sat 14/1 for our 'date night' planned for the following Sat 21/1. In error, when we booked online, we booked for the 14th and specified a check in time of 1:00pm (9 hours prior). When we went to print our voucher on the 21st, we realised our error and called Wotif who in turn, contacted the hotel. The hotel duty manager, Danny advised Wotif that he would not amend the booking to tonight (21/1). I then contacted the duty manager myself who conceded that he had the discretion to amend the booking and although could see that the booking was made at 10:35pm with a requested check in time of 2:00pm, he would not be amending the booking. His reason was that the hotel was 'holding' this room and could have booked it out to other guests.....at almost 11pm on a very quiet Saturday night (no concerts, major seminars or major events on in Brisbane - I checked) and therefore unlikely to have resulted in a financial loss to Citigate. Given the full circumstances, a reasonable person would have determined that although an error was made on our behalf, it was an honest mistake and one that is unlikely to have resulted in financial loss. In fact, the hotel had the opportunity to provide exceptional customer service by amending the booking. A clear case of blatant profiteering and poor customer service. I would not recommend this hotel to my dog based on my experience.

Room Tip: Don't do it!

“Disappointed by Citigate Brisbane.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This property is in a great location near coffee shops, restaurants and close to Southbank (10-15 min walk) on the other side of the river. The lobby, shared with the Sebel Brisbane King George Square, is fabulous but the rooms on the Citigate side are a bit worn and tawdry. Parking is pricey and the reception we got on arrival wasn't great.

It was the week between X-mas and New Year; the hotel was quiet (ie: empty) as few business meetings were scheduled for this period. We'd been driving for 12 hours up from Sydney and instead of a smile for a greeting, we got, along with an upturned nose and a sneer: "This is a commercial hotel, it's not for holiday makers". The only thing that got her attention was the Platinum Amex. This is no place for rude 22 year old at the front desk.

“Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We spend two separate nights ( Friday and the following Monday) as part of a chartered flight holiday to Lake Eyre. My memory of this hotel went back to its days as the Crest in the 80's and my expectation was that it would reflect its age. I was wrong, it has kept up with the times and represents a reasonable standard at what my research on the net suggests is excellent value. (We paid for the hotel as part of an overall package).

Our first night was on the 11th floor facing the church and our second on the 6th floor overlooking City Hall. Both rooms were double glazed and there was no intrusive noise. The beds were some of the best I have slept in and the room facilities of good standard and well maintained. The location is central.

We ate in the restaurant with 6 local friends on the first evening and all voted the food and service excellent. Unfortunately the bar was closed due to the public holiday and we had extensive pre-dinner drinks in the restaurant which made the total cost of the evening more than we might have expected. The message here is drink and chat somewhere else and then move to the restaurant. The buffet breakfast was at international standards and I noted several airline crews at the hotel which I think is always a good sign.

Room Tip: Probably the higher floor the better.

“Recommend this Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

The hotel is located within walking distance of city train stations & Queen St Mall. The rooms are clean & are a reasonable size with fridge & safe. We spent a night in transit & the hotel was more than adequate.
