“Not bad for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

My family of four (myself, partner and boys aged 4 and 7) stayed at the Sedgebrook for a week while we did ssome renovations on our house, so for us it was not a holiday. We stayed in a two bedroom villa which was located in the street behind Leichardt Street. The block was only about 5 levels and had included a swimming pool (quite clean and well shaded)
The price for the room (we had room 13 on level 4) was very reasonable compared to other similar places available at the same time. The room was a good size and the balcony was very big for an inner city apartment. We noticed that two out of the three screen doors leading onto the balcony looked like they had been broken into - there were holes in the screens near the lock. That said, the glass doors appeared to be safe and secure.

The room was dated but well equipped with a fairly new tv, clothes washer and dryer and older, but functional kitchen appliances. You could see that this apartment was probably very nice about 20 years ago, but is now a bit tired looking.

We had limited contact with the staff. On check in the staff were helpful. She provided us with two sets of keys and advised us against using their wireless internet - it was cheaper to buy it ourselves than use theirs. On check out I called reception and arranged for someone to meet me in the car park to hand over the keys and let me out so that I could avoid having to find a park on the street and drag the kids up to reception to check out. Reception was happy to do this for me.

Overall for the price we thought it was good value and very spacious for a family of four. It could do with an upgrade, but of course that would increase the price.

Room Tip: Rooms on the East side are a bit bright in the morning.

“stayed and will not stay again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

The experience started badly from the start, when we arrived to check in at 4pm reception was unattended with a note from manager saying will be back at 5pm but left a phone no so you could contact her. We rang no she confirmed she would be there in 20mins but did not show up until 4.50pm. Checking in was just as bad, the relieving manager could not operate credit card machine to charge balance of accommodation this took 30mins to sought out after another phone call by relieving manager. The room we had was on 5 floor room itself was clean and tidy. However the hotel is accross the road from a pub hence very noisy at nite will not stay there again. Check out no better.

“good value for money if on a budget”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2011

We had a 2 BR Apartment. evidence of refurbishment with some new appliances and furnishings

The rooms were small but clean and comfortable

It was a last minute booking so we were in a ground floor unit which was quite dark and got very little sun. I think apartments on upper floors would be better. Nice outdoor patio area. Excellent location - 10 min walk to town

Room Tip: Ask for an upper level apartment as ground floor very dark

“Stay from Hell!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2011

After flying in to Brrisbane at 5.30am I needed to stay at the airport for 3 hours so not to arrive at the apartments before 9.am as there is no reception till then.
Then needed to wait another 3 hours for a room.
Desperate for sleep, I was then told that there was construction work happening, there was drilling, hammering and workman yelling til 3.00pm
The room is dated and desperately needs renovation. The carpets were dirty with dark stains.
When I asked for soap, I was told to use the shower gel which was some jelly like soap.
The shampoo/conditioner was hopeless.
The lady at the front desk, (when she was there) was pleasant enough.
I'll make sure that I'll never ever stay here again!

“Great location, but that's about it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

I booked a room with Sedgebrook apartments in February 2011 and arrived in April 2011.
I found them via wotif.com and thought the pictures, location and description looked okay.

I rang them to book a 1 week stay and they told me their rate. I replied, that's not what it says on wotif.com and their reply was, 'oh, we have raised our rates, but haven't been able to change it on that site.' So I asked if they could honour the rate anyway and that was confirmed. Lucky me, I thought.

I was told that if I arrived after 5pm I should follow their directions to retrieve the room key.
I told them that I was going to arrive before 5pm. Which I did, but when I arrived the lady at the reception showed me my invoice. They'd taken the whole amount due for that week from my credit card. I thought, that's odd, that wasn't agreed upon, but left it at that.

As I went to my room, the hallway on my floor smelled like cooked food. I figured later on that it was from the sushi place downstairs.
As I entered my room, I noticed scaffolding all around my balcony, the room and bathroom.

If I worked here, I would have given the guest (who booked months ahead), the option to find another place to stay. They didn't and by the time I wanted to change rooms, I was told the only other available room was above mine, with scaffolding as well.
I went outside and noticed there weren't many other rooms affected by this.
So I assume that because I got the room for the old rate, I was placed in the back and not given a nicer room.

I tried to find another location, but because it was such late notice, everything in the area was fully booked. I had to stay at Sedgebrook.
Everyday, except for the weekend, I was woken at 6.30am from the workmen who started walking up and down the scaffolding. This went on for a while and I had to close the blinds so not to look straight into a trademen's face.

I didn't enjoy my stay. Perhaps if the management just left this room empty, and move me to the front instead of accepting more bookings, or at least try feel bad about this, I might have enjoyed my stay.

Oh.. there was a note in the bathroom saying that you have to open the bathroom window in order to let the steam out, because the steam WILL set the smoke alarm off and if it does, I am responsible for the costs (or something).
By opening the bathroom window in the shower area, the workmen would see inside clearly. Not good.
Not nice.
Not warm and welcoming.
Not helpful.
Not coming back and won't recommend this place to my friends.
