“Good Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I checked into this hotel in rainy January and the manager, Bryant was very helpful and showed me to my room. I was pleasantly surprised how close it was to Chinatown and the CBD. They are both only a walk away and considering I only paid $89 for the room I thought it was very good value. I had a wide screen TV and private bathroom as well as cooking facilities, so I didn't need to spend money on going to restaurants. Also a family member was in Royal Brisbane Hospital and this is only a five minute walk from the motel, so it was perfectly located. It also had a nice relaxing BBQ and spa area at the back of the motel, where I could get on my laptop, and connect with a fast internet connection. All in all I had a great stay at this motel.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room at the rear of the motel

Fairly old building but not bad air con is cold and the showers are hot. Yes the bathroom sink is daggy and the room fridge is rusty but you get clean towels each day. Stayed for 3 nights to be close to RBWH and we walked everywhere. Served a purpose probably not going to be my first choise next trip.

3 nights was far too long. 3 minutes would be long enough. Depressing rooms, could hear everyone else, terrible location. Even the receptionist asked why we were staying there cos it's terrible! Avoid like the plague! I've stayed in far better hostels/backpackers!

“Don't stay here unless you are absolutely desparate”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

Unfortunately I booked this motel based on the internet advertising, being close to the RBH, and it was very affordable. We stayed in unit 17 - the airconditioning leaked all over the floor, the shower waste overflowed - no problem the staff unblocked it with Drano, gave us an extra towel to mop up the water that leaked everywhere. The same towel stayed there for three days! Asked for one pillow as there were only two but they could only give us one extra pillow. Well when they talk about no expense spared believe me there has been no expense spent on this dump in a very long time. If you can overcome the smell of urine in the bathroom, the mouldy mildewy smell in the room and the hallway, good on you. Unfortunately this motel is also on the list of local accommodation that the RBH give you and they are obviously not aware what a S**THOLE it is. If you value your health, check before you book and if you can spend a little bit more money - possibly somewhere like Chermside where you will get better value for money and a CLEAN room!

Room Tip: If you need to stay close to RBH try somewhere out of the city e.g. Chermside which is on the bus ro...

“We got SCABIES from this motel DO NOT STAY HERE!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

My partner and I were in need of a place to stay urgently and decided to try our luck with a "budget" motel in Brisbane. After looking at several internet adds for motels in various locations we agree'd that City Palms motel was the best value for money. When we arrived we almost laughed as the photo's on the internet portrayed a much nicer motel than the dank dark and dirty establishment we arrived at. The receptionist was disinterested and didn't really seem to care about our interests. We got to the room and were further disapointed at the levels of cleanliness or lack thereof. The room itself was barely big enough to fit a double bed, and the TV was so small and high set on the wall that it was barely worth watching. After dinner, my partner laid back against the bed head and almost immediately started complaining of a bad itch on his forearm. We dismissed it at the time yet the itch continued and by the time we left the next morning he had come out in a rash around his right wrist and forearm. When the rash would not subside our concerns deepened. We had a sneaking suspicion that we'd both contracted something from the motel as after about a week, I was itching too. The Doctor later confirmed that we had picked up SCABIES!!! A flesh tunnelling, microscopic mite that lays eggs under your skin.. much like lice, and harder to get rid of!!!! We were absolutely furious and disgusted that a business like this is allowed to run in Australia! We made three complaints to the hotel manager who dismissed me each time i rang. He told me the owner had been advised of the message and would call me back. After almost another three weeks of chasing, and much work on our part (to get rid of the scabies we had to do two lots of cream treatments, wash EVERY piece of linnen, clothing and carpet in the house) i finally rang back for the fourth time and basically told the guy to pull his head in as this was not going away, and he finally gave me the owners phone number, and name. To this date we have not gotten in contact with the owner, but have been disgusted with the way we were treated, disgusted with the establishment in general, disgusted with the owners attitude towards the state of his business etc etc. The owner had been in Brisbane a week or two prior to our final call to management and were told that he had been to the room to see for himself, and said that he couldn't "see anything". I laughed and told the manager that "he won't see anything! scabies is a microscopic mite!!!" on city Palms part, nothing has yet been done about this. And the next few people who stayed in that room would surely have contracted scabies as well. These guys should be shut down!!!!!!! DISGUSTED!!!!!!!
