“fantastic modern hotel for a business stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I stayed at The Point for a business visit recently, in one of the brand new rooms from a recent addition to the hotel. The room was lovely, extremely modern and quite large. The cleanliness was outstanding, which i particularly appreciated.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and were happy to assist me by delivering a phone charger to my room when I realised that I had left mine at home.

The hotel is located just outside of the city, across the story bridge. It's about a 5 minute cab ride to the city. for those who want a break from the city, this place is for you. Plus you can potentially get fabulous views of the city, river, and the story bridge.

Room Tip: Ask for the courtesy bus on weekday mornings, it takes you straight into the city and saves waiting...

“Average...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Was supposed to stay 4 night, but after a not so pleasant encounter at receptions n checking out the room, stayed for two nights.
Didn't check out any amenities, since it was a weekend, my time spent at the hotel was only to sleep n shower.
Has secure parking, comfortable bed, very little room service options.
Won't be staying again when there are lots of options close by.

“Nice and Comfortable Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

We booked an evening here with breakfast. The location is good. Good size room. We booked a River View room. Make note - if you want a view of the Brisbane River, then please do not book a river view room. The only way you are able to see the river from one of these rooms is to lean over the balcony (as far as you can) and crane your neck to the left and you will see it.
We mentioned this to the reception staff and they were only too happy to move us to a Story Bridge Room which had a lovely view of the river AND the bridge. Their helpful staff member even showed us a couple of other rooms first to see what was more accommodating. The rooms are clean and not too dated. The only thing I can say that needed updating was their towelling robes which are looking a bit worse for wear. Breakfast was lovely. Staff very helpful. All in all.. a good stay.

Room Tip: Tip: if you want a view of the river - do not book a river view room.

“Good value”

Stayed for two nights on holiday. Room was only two months old. Comfortable bedding and incredibly fast room service were notable. Hotel was across river from City Centre but accessible by ferry or taxi. WiFi was free in lobby, but $25 per day in room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room opposite the freeway for less noise.

“Some Staff Training Would Help”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

Seems as though these folks are new to the hospitality business. I can share a couple of examples:
1) The housekeeping staff rarely, if ever wiped down counter tops. They also took towels that were on the ground (indicating they were dirty) and put them back on the rack. Bins were not emptied regularly. During my 3-night stay, items I had thrown out on Monday were still there Thursday morning! Amenities were not replaced if used unless a call was made to request them
2) The restaurant manager was so concerned about "table turnover" that he cautioned my 3 colleagues and I to not stay too long. We were using the restaurant space to conduct an after work meeting for a short time and ordered plenty of food and beverages. The main reason we used the restaurant was because wireless internet is offered there and there is absolutely no place else in the hotel to work apart from hiring a function room. Restaurant manager, please get some customer service training and recognise valuable customers vs. restaurant lingerers!
3) Does anyone think $23.50 for a continental breakfast is reasonable? When I brought this concern to the front desk, I got a speech about the competitive environment in the area. Sorry, I could care less what your neighbours are charging. I could travel 1km away or less and get a FULL breakfast for about $15.00. High prices are a part of Aussie life, but this is ridiculous and the "apology" was meagre.
4) Vegetarian options were scarce in the restaurant.
5) NO wi-fi at all in the guest rooms. This is a problem, especially for a newer hotel. We came to Brisbane for business, but this hotel is not set up for it.

They should focus attention more on SERVICE, but otherwise the hotel has nice views and the beds are comfy.
Value was mediocre overall.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the bridge or the Gabba are best, but eat elsewhere.
