“If your home is 70's style it's a 'home away from home'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

When Reception finally acknowledged being the only person waiting to check-in, the rest was ok. For the 3.5 star quality and price (including car parking - which can be pricey in Brisbane from $20 p/nt+ on top of room charge). the stay was ok. Agree with previous comments, the service could be better.
Room: (Deluxe Studio). Great view, balcony, kitchenette, very retro 70's style & old fashioned. Could be noisy with the doors open or closed (depends on peak hour traffic) Cleanliness was good, while the balcony must get constant dirt from passing traffic. Bed was King size - firm with soft top. Flat screen TV, DVD/CD player were welcome. Shower small and the tiling very grandma-ish.
Location: If you're a smoker or have a bad leg, the 15-20 min hike up hill from downtown could be a challenge. Otherwise ok location close to CBD.
Facilities: Didnt use pool etc. No restuarant but a delivery service from external operators and charge back available from some local restaurants.
Overall: Good value 3.5 star, compared to the high prices and min stay requirements of other more modern apartment style hotels in Brisbane. If your home is 70's retro style, then like the GM's note in the compendium says, it's a 'home away from home'.

Room Tip: South side high floor gets a river glimpse and skyline view

“Convenient but could do with some refurbishing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

Blast from the past - Essentially as it was when built (1981) but I think carpets and the lounge chair had been replaced more recently. However it was clean and comfortable and certainly sufficiently roomy for a coupler of nights. The bed looked a bit saggy but was surprisingly comfortable.
Noise? - we didn't hear any other guests. Traffic noise of course but it didn't worry us.
Location is at the highest point in the city so there were cityscape views. Easy walk into the city, but the return was good exercise.
Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. Free parking in basement (charged for separately in some other establishments so take that into account when comparing prices).
Easy to find using our navigator when arriving from the north. Supermarket is about 10 mins walk away, likewise a couple of restaurants. If you want more choice you would need to travel further (we chose to get a taxi ($12) to the Southbank Parklands area which has a large number of cafes and restaurants).

“Overpriced, no hospitality and very noisy.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

This place essentially has the feel halfway/ boarding house that is in desperate need of a clean and renovation.
It offers no gym, very dated decor and an exceptionally rude receptionist. I really can't understand why someone would be in hospitality if can't be bothered with people. Apparently you are meant to be a mind reader and know how the car park operates.
There is a musty stench you smell as you walk into the dated foyer and went you go in the lift you're trapped in the smell.
Never again will I ever stay there again. A big waste of money, I would've been better off in a hostel.
In terms of sleep quality, how does the sound of about 100 ambulances in your room sound one after the other?

Room Tip: Forget it.. They are all crap.

“Not that impressed”

The appartments are situated on a hill in the Spring Hill area just north of the city centre. There is a free bus service from a bus stop approx 100m down the road, which is does a loop around the Spring Hill area so getting to and from the CBD / city centre is fairly easy if you don't fancy the 10 minute walk (up hill when returning to the accomodation). Although the appartment and block is quite dated, the appartment was spacious and has its' own laundry facility, kitchenand eating area which was really useful. Our appartment also had a reasonable sized balcony (enough room for 3 people to sit), but the pool and pool area was out of use for the whole 10 days we stayed there, and there is no gym. The access to the hotel is by code only after 7pm as there is no staff working then, and I wouldn't recommend walking very far around that area in the hours of darkness because there we quite a few dodgey characters wandering even in the day time. Internet access was pre-pay only and not cheap. You have to pay for cleaning / bed linen changes, however, the emptying of bins was provided free of charge. For 4 nights, we had interrupted sleep because of a 'very active' guest staying in the room next door. I wouldn't choose to stay in this accomodation again because I think you could get better value for money elsewhere in the city.

Room Tip: Request a balcony and higher up so you aren't overlooked. Also worth asking for a room that gets...

“A bit tired now”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

I stayed her about 1997 for 2 weeks while working in Brisbane on a project so when we needed to book one night in Brisbane recently, we thought we'd give it a whirl again for old times sake.....:) I read the reviews and was aware that it might not be perfect.
The room we had (I think I recall it was 527) was alright. It was a studio apartment. The decor in the room was OK, the kitchenette OK. The bed had one of those pillow top things on top of the mattress and it was just about OK. The bathroom looked like it had not been updated since it was first built as the tiles were very 1980's. It was clean enough though and did the job.
The room overlooked Leichardt street and there was a bit of traffic noise but it wasn't too bad.
We booked about 2 weeks in advance and paid $160 for the night and I did notice it go down to $149 a few days before we went there but I couldn't be bothered to try and cancel and rebook so we just paid up.
We went there to go to the rugby at Suncorp Stadium. It was about 20-25 minutes walk to the stadium so reasonably well located. If we went again for another game I'd probably look at the Park Regis as that would be closer but I think it was more expensive.
As other people have said, there is nothing much in the area but there are a couple of dining places I can recommend. There is an Indian restaurant just down the road. Indian Taste Buds restaurant at 391 Wickham Terrace. The food was very good here but not very cheap. And further down Leichardt street we found Pizza Capers and got a pizza here for lunch which was very good.
The pubs in the vicinity all look a bit seedy.
The free Spring Hill bus back up the hill was very useful on the Monday.
Parking is under the building and free. (this was another reason we chose this place as some hotels seem to charge like wounded bulls for parking). They kindly let us leave our car there after we had checked out at 10am while we had a wander round the city centre.
We had no problem with the reception staff, found them to be quite helpful and friendly.
Internet access in Reception was $2 for 20 mins I think and then $1 per page to print out our boarding passes (!)
I think they may have had free wifi in the rooms but I didn't bring my laptop on this trip so I am not sure.
We did not use the swimming pool or any other facilities in the hotel but the pool did look like it would be nice if the weather was warmer.
