“Lacking service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

We needed a place to stay overnight as we were attending a function in Brisbane and did not want to drive back to the Gold Coast late at night so I need to say that this review is based on a one night stay, but did this one night stay convince us to return in the future? Sadly, it did not.
The room was comfortable and clean, although I do have to agree with an earlier reviewer who commented on the quality of the pillows. These could certainly do with updating to a better quality. For us, the big let down at this hotel was the service. The young man on the desk was brusque and somewhat disinterested when we checked in. This of course immediately puts any guest on edge. After checking in, we went immediately to the function we were attending and so our next encounter with the staff was at breakfast. The hotel had two young girls only on breakfast - one who was quite pleasant and the other who obviously did not want to be there and was quite surly and unhelpful. Although there were a number of tables empty when we arrived at 8.30am, they were all dirty and we were asked to wait while one was cleaned for us. It was interesting to see the same happen to four other couples who arrived after us - one couple being asked to wait in the lounge area while other people arrived and were seated ahead of them - each table being cleaned one at a time. Sitting among a lot of dirty tables is not a really pleasant start to breakfast but no attempt to clean the tables was made until guests required them. Were the girls run off their feet - I didn't think so but perhaps it was just a case of poor training. Combined with this was the fact the buffet breakfast was completed depleted. There were no eggs, no bacon, just a few very dried out hash browns and sausages . Also no yoghurt and the coffee machine had run out of water as well! The coffee machine and yoghurt were replenished but We ended up having toast and tea and it was only as we departed the breakfast area that fresh hot food was being delivered. If the measure of a good hotel was the room only, then the Medina would be fine. However in my opinion a good hotel is much more than this and it is in these other areas that the Medina failed to impress.

“Great value and close to everything. Will use this place again if staying in Brisbane.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

My wife and I needed accommodation close to the Fortitude Valley region as we were attending a special occasion at a local restaurant and wanted to stay nearby that night.
Medina met and exceeded our expectations. The one bedroom apartment we had was small but adequate with a great view of the Story Bridge and Brisbane River up to the City.

Room Tip: Ask for a river side room if possible.

“Don't overlook”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Stayed for 3 nights making our own long weekend. The location suited us and we enjoyed the 1 bedroom apartment. Room was clean and utilised the natural light. Claims of a fully equipped kitchen isn't adequate, our room didn't have an oven, chopping board or scissors. I am fussy on pillow quality and didn't get a good night sleep because my wife and daughter used the good ones and mine had seen better days. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Staff were pleasant, pool and tennis court fun to use as the view over the river, Story Bridge and city skyline is superb. I'd stay again without a hesitation.

Room Tip: Pay more for a river view room, it's worth the extra cash.

“Great Views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We had a great 2 bedroom appartment on the river side. Great views of the storey bridge and up/down the Brisbane River and across into the city. Room was nice and clean on arrival, Kitchen had everything we needed. Only thing was with children the TV could have been better placed. Kids were always wanting to touch all the cords. TV would have been better mounted on the wall. Main entry door was also an issue. My 15 month old son could open it and walk out. We had to keep a chair against the door so he didn't open it, or it needs a safety latch/chain thing that a lot of hotel have. Air-con didn't really get cold the main bedroom was very hot fan's would have been nice. Pool was wonderful temperature was perfect although the spa was way too hot. Great location, easy to get into the mall although the walk back up the hill is hard with kids and a pram. Ferry termainl is only a nice 10 mintue walk along the boardwalk. Great experience and would stay again.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We stayed at the medina twice during a three week holiday to Australia. Firstly for 7 nights in a one bed apt no balcony and second time for 6 nights when we upgraded to get a river view and balcony.

Hotel was clean, staff efficient and very helpful. Did my airport online checking for me and when my husband was taken ill at the end of our holiday the assistant manager was amazing. Thank you!!

Would stay at medina again if ever in Brisbane . Super location.

If any complaint small one re 30 dollar a night upgrade charge when hotel virtually empty whole time we were there. First few days after new year there was not even breakfast option only roon service as so quiet. Upgrade room was smaller than original but view was amazing.

Room Tip: Choose high floor and ask for balcony river view.
