“Wish I was back there.”

This was my first trip back to Australia after forty years, my wife's first. Our first three nights in Brisbane were at the Hillcrest. We can hardly say enough good things about our stay. We absolutely loved Brisbane, and our experience at Hillcrest was a big part of that. Clean, well maintained, great service, wonderful view of the city. Close proximity to South Bank Parklands, Kangaroo Point, The Gabba, and the CBD itself made it a perfect location. Okay, the air conditioning wasn't very good, but that's the only negative.

Go to South Bank Parkland (catch the weekend market and find Daniel Murphy, aboriginal name Murruppi; I bought a didgeridoo he made and listend to him play it), watch the sunrise from the Goodwill Bridge, catch the CitySights bus tour at the bottom of Vulture in front of the Parklands entrance, take a CityCat ferry from South Bank to Toowong and eat at the restaurant connected to the historic Regatta Hotel, and of course, see as much of the CBD as you're able. We're already planning our return. Not going to wait another forty years.

“Fabulous views over the river towards the city centre”

About 30 minute walk from the bus/train station and just over the river from the business district. An easy walk through the parklands by the river and the bus stop was in the basement of the hospital next door. Get an apartment overlooking the river and CBD - they are quiet and the views are fantastic. Living area and kitchen were huge and very comfortable. Walk down to Stanley street and then towards the stadium; Coles supermarket is a 10 min walk away, continue on past the Australian National pub and you'll find a huge wine shop. Hotel restaurant was reasonably priced standard fare and.

“Theft incident”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

Terrible experience with Hillcrest Apartments on Vulture St. South Brisbane on August 2010. Housekeeping helped themselves to food in the refrigerator and drank from an unopened bottle of softdrink. Upon complaint, staff was defensive, dismissive, and offered no apologies. To top it off, hotel manager cited racist comments about their Filipino housekeeper's diets of fish that they bring to lunch and therefor "could not possibly have stolen pizza". Ridiculous and ignorant.

“Road Noise Spoils an Otherwise Good Location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

The location was good, and it was one of the cheaper hotels in Brisbane. Although I never used it, there was a sauna and a nicely warmed spa. There was free parking, and they let us park the car there for a few more hours after we had checked out. The shower was warm with good water pressure and good height on the nozzle.

The room had thin windows and the air conditioner/heater had some holes around it (as it was propped within the window) and we had a view of the M3, so the noise was quite loud. We could have tried to turn on the heater to drown out some of the noise, but it was very noisy and more erratic than the motorway. The room was dusty. You could easily feel the springs through the thin mattress. My wife was cold both nights, as we couldn't turn on the heater because of the noise and there weren't enough blankets. They didn't bring us refills of shampoo and conditioner for the second day, and when my wife told the receptionist upon check out, she didn't apologize. The toaster in the room of the couple we were staying with didn't work.
